When you download scenery for FS2002, it appears some of the downloads are replacing your defaults, and some state that certain ones don't affect your defaults.  How do I know? 

Also, if a scenery file does replace the default file, can you get back to default in all cases, if you so choose? 

Any help is appreciated.

How are you installing this scenery? You're not very clear on what you are doing. You shouldn't have to replace any files at all. If you install it as seperate scenery, it will be in it's own folder and can't replace anything. If it conflicts with default scenery, then the designer should have used a flatten command. Put the .bgl files in a folder called scenery and the texture files (.bmp or .af for aircraft macros) in a folder called texture. Then put those in a folder called whatever you like and put it in your Addon Scenery folder and activate it in the sim. NEVER replace default scenery files.

Then the best thing to do is to follow the instructions in the read me file. No point worring about it untill you actually download something eh.

I appreciate all the assistance.  So far, so good!  I have successfully downloaded both aircraft and miscellaneous files.  I've yet to do scenery.  I'll let you know, if there's anything to report.  Thanks!
