I had that problem too, but then I opened everything up in Paint Shop Pro and it worked for me. I got the black images when I used Paint from windows.

What program are you using?

If you're flying 2002, you've got to open the files with ImageTool first.  You can find this in C>Program Files>Microsoft Games>FS2002 (after that I don't remember where it is--it's now just a desktop shortcut. lol)

Once you open the texture you want to modify, go to Image>Convert>32 Bit (I believe that's the right path...I don't even read it anymore, sorry), then save the file.

Now you'll be able to open the file with no problems in PSP.  Word of advice...LAYERS.

Try DXTBmp here. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
It's easier to use than Imagetool.

I can recommend Garry J. Smith's excellent repainting tute here. http://www.gjsmith.com/Tutorial/Tutorial.htm
He uses PSP in the tute but the principle is the same for all graphics editors/paint programs.
