Amongst the photos lent to me recently by a workmate were these shots of Avro Vulcan XH558, the first Vulcan B2 to fly and also the last. The Lottery will not help fund its return to flight, so this may be the only reminder of what a Vulcan in flight was like.
Avro Vulcan B2 XH558 doing what she did best, giving the crowd an earful of Bristol Olympus 301's.

I will always remember the Vulcan very fondly as it was a staple at the CNE(Cdn Nat Airshow) for many years as I learned my photography skills (back in the 70's)......good memories.......negs, pics, and slides are all in my daughters hands now.....

There are no words to describe the power of XH558
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Used to scare the s*** out of me when I was about 4 but just about the time I really started to love to see it fly it was taken off the display circuit and that really annoyed me.

Nice photos Tempest. Brings back some fond memories. Unless you've been on the receiving end of those 4 Olympus engines on full chat you ain't heard nothin'.

That is so true Hagar pal. The combined sight and sound of the Vulcan is unmatched by anything on the scene today.

There is a static display Vulcan at a little museum near Norwich Airport. I've been on it and sat in the left hand seat, they are massive outside and very cramped inside! The gentleman who gave me the "tour" used to be an electronics warfare officer in the back.
I've never seen one flying and probably never will. Those shots are awesome.
Thanks Hawker.

The first time I knew of this wonderful bird was at Southend Airshow (Can't remember year) and I was minding my own business playing in the sand when it soared over-head.
It scared the sh*t outta me so much that i ran to the nearest pier and ducked for cover!
Anyways there is one at Southend Airport and it does VERY VERY VERY loud taxi runs! ! !
They are trying to raise enough mony to get it in the air again.

NOBODY BUT NOBODY BUILT AN AIRCRAFT LIKE A.V.ROE
I believe this Companies Aircraft were pioneers and distiguished themselves all over the world.
I hope you find a sponsor for this aircraft if the lottery commission falls short.
We are still trying to hang those responsible for the cancellation of the AVRO ARROW in this Country!
At Least our NEW Prime Minister is talking about building/designing our own aircraft, ships and military equipment again.
Cheers....Happy Landings....Doug

~S~ mates. As to the Vulcan, which although as being 15 have never seen it fly, the latest edition of Flypast mentions that the Vulcan has gotten the go-ahead for a level one grant by the National lottery. Which means now all they need to do is to gain a level two and it should be returning...
I've only really seen it once and that was at Duxford and the one at Newark Museum. Great big thing. I could see it sticking out of the hedge from the car window!
My Grandma keeps telling me stories of when they used to scare the shit out of my Dad at Skeggie along with the Lightnings...

Yeah it's going OK at the moment but to raise extra cash we ask people who visit for small donations and we're thinking about charging a small fee for people to have souvenier photos.
The photo would include You, The Bird and a genuine pilot.
Only prob would be finding someone who has actually flown her.
Any takers?
Thanx. Carl

The closest I can think would be the B1B. At RIAT in 2001 we had a wee incident where a few "spectators" (they hadn't paid and were sitting outside the perimeter inline with the runway) were literally "blown away" by the B1b's take off...

I was at that show Charlie and I remember the incident. More fool them for standing there in the first place.
The pilot rolled the B-1 at that show, first time I've seen that with a B-1. I was impressed.
