Hi everyone
getting more and more enjoyment every time i FLY the sim , lets face it ya dont play it
got a couple of questions still though
1. why when landing in Malta did my downloaded 737 half disapear into the runway , bit disapointing considering i had flown from heathrow , wierd
2, what would be the best files to add on to pro , there are loads out there but some must be worth having more than others , like sea texture , airport vehicle traffic that sort of thing
Thanks for any advice

Hi Gilbates.........
Not completely sure ...... but the "plane imbedded in the runway" is sometimes the sign that your landing was not all that successful
. Unless you have crash effects enabled......... that is sometimes the only indcation that maybe your vertical speed was more than the landing gear could take at touchdown.
BTW........ a great mistake I have made is to touch the wheel brakes before the nosewheel is on the ground
...... results in the nose coming down really hard.... the nose gear being totally and instantly destroyed,..... and as they say, the rest is history......no survivors...... film at 11.
As to add-ons... for me the REAL nice touch was to get AIMover (with TTools) and AFCAD and add a lot of real world AI traffic. Makes the whole thing feel closer to "as real as it gets" when you are flying at your local airport and the REAL commercial traffic that normaly flies out of there is what you hear on ATC..... and see on the ground. And the flights are very frequent and there is a lot of waiting in line to taxi to the active.
One thing that has REALLY improved some airports for me that AFCAD can do, is to set up one runway for takeoffs and another for landings. Allows lots more traffic to use the airport. ATC freq's can get pretty noisy though.
I also have enjoyed getting some of the super- realistic airport files ...I think mostly done in G-Max....... that make the airports really look like the actual place. I am a bit of a Japan-ophile and I have a GREAT one of Kansai (Japan) by a Japanese designer.... whose name I can't think of right now...... shitsurei shimasu. It has details right down to seeing indoor seating thru the partially transparent glass in the terminals. Just taxi-ing to the active or to the gates is a pleasure. Really looks like the real thing.
So..... my $0.02 worth.
best,
....................john

If you looked at your downloaded 737 in spot view and actually saw that the landing gear was sinking into the ground (or even worse, the fuselage), that is an indicator that the contact points for that model are inaccurate. You can find and edit the contact points in the Aircraft.cfg file to be found in that aircraft's folder.
Finding the correct data for the contact points usually involves trial and error. Perhaps someone else could provide some info on what all of figures represent!

Thanks for the detailed replies guys , i`m still unsure as to what files are the best ones to download yet though , i usually fly from Heathrow to European destinations , so i guess my best bet is to look out for those type of files
As to the plane sinking into the Tarmac , i have landed at the same airport before under the same cicumstances , my gear was down for sure , the altimeter was set right and all settings are set for realistic , no niceaties here , my view....... if ya gota learn fast , learn the hard way
