Autothrottles (Read 233 times)

A question about autotrottles:

How come, when I download some civil jets, SOME developers have put a autothrottle switch on the panel but not bothered to activate it?

Here is what you do if it doesn't work:

Do this to the Aircraft.cfg:

[autopilot]
autopilot_available=1
flight_director_available=1
default_vertical_speed=150
autothrottle_available=1
autothrottle_arming_required=1
autothrottle_takeoff_ga=1
autothrottle_max_rpm=97.000000
pitch_takeoff_ga=8.000000
use_no_default_pitch=1
use_no_default_bank=1

Changing the 0 to 1 on autotrottle available, making it available.

What is the advantage of an autothrottle anyway? Ok I,m not flying 747s but if I set up my aircraft properly and monitor the flight I don't need it. That's everything;climb out,cruise,descent and landing.
Why is it used?

its used in the real world to stop pilots from getting worn out quickly. if you imagine having to constantly use the throttles after tailwinds headwinds and so on, you'd be worn out after only the first leg and also constantly to busy to worry about other important things

Went off and did a little bit of reading and you're right it does reduce the workload on the pilot at  critical times.
It also improves engine and fuel management and is normally found only in more expensive biz jets and large commercial aircraft.
A price I saw was $95000 fitted to a Challenger 604.
Without seeming to appear cynical it appears to be more directed at dollar saving than an attempt to reduce aircrew stress. Nevertheless there is a benefit for all with this system.
With a brief description of one system I read about maybe pilotless commercial aircraft aren't as far away as think!

i dont like the idea of pilotless aircraft, way to dangerous. untill it is 100% problem proof it'll never happen, again for autothrottles the only types i have seen them on are jet engined aircraft, business like you said and most of if not all commercial jets, including commercial props

Eh?

This is absolutely totally the opposite to what I've found. I haven't downloaded a single quality jet which doesn't have its a/t set up correctly.

I'm surprised by your comments. I can assure you that someone who's bright enough to create a highly detailed and accurate model and has spent hundreds of hours doing so knows how to edit the aircraft.cfg file (but I'm sure they're always ready to be told how by you)

If you're so unhappy with all this terrible FREEWARE why don't you start to create one or two PERFECT aircraft yourself.

Have you got what it takes?

I think you've certainly chosen the right name.

Doesn't anybody know that to have a autothrottle in a plane to must do the following:

I agree with Rollerball. The intricacies of aircraft design are so far above my head that they have broken the 100'000 Feet mark in my world.  I think that Airbrat owes the panel designers that he is being so condescending towards a public apology.

Sorry everyone, I shouldn't have wrote ALL developers.  I guess I was a little frustrated after downloading two aircraft with that same error in a row.
