I have had enough of cheap shoddy rubbish like Big Brother. I haven't watched any of it since the first UK series and it is DOMINATING the media. You don't have to watch it or read about it to be annoyed by it. The girls at work seem to talk about nothing else and it is low budget, false reality TV at its worst. Total non entities get their five minutes of fame and I have to suffer because of it.
And whilst I'm of the subject
DON'T
let me get started on David and Victoria "Nauseating Pratts" Beckham. (Posh and Becks).
ARRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for you attention,
Have a Nice Day

Its hit hard everywhere. For once I think I found a community that agrees with me that reality TV shows must GO! I think simmers are the most loyal and honest group of people in the world. We respect many things in this world (mostly big metal birds
), and we respect each other. Unlike other communities in this world. I trust a fellow simmers opinion the most. Reality TV SUCKS!

It's worse in the US. We have Big Brother, countless dating/mating shows, stuff on islands, minor celebrity stuff on islands, Fear Factor (will you eat live roaches for money?), ad nauseam.
They are cheap to make so producers love them. I just can't figure out why anyone watches them.

And the most annoying thing about American reality TV shows is that they get exported to us!
We either get really annoying Americans in stupid situations or really poor quality Anglicised versions of American shows.
The only selling point to the TV stations is that these shows are cheap to make and that those with no education seem to love them and will watch them for hours. The get to have a program with a very low finantial outlay, massive advertising potential and interactive features that mean that the TV companies win three ways. We will never see the back of reality TV.
The other thing that bugs me is lowest common denominator documentarys. I am sure you know what I mean. They build you up about the latest documentary on for example V1 flying bombs, showing clips of them as trailers plus snippets of interviews with technicians who worked on them and pilots who shot 'em down.
The program starts at 20.00 hours. The first ten minutes tells you all about Hitler and the course of World War 2 up until 1943. There are lots of in depth pauses and poor quality graphics of a Spitfire and FW190. At 20.10 you have an advert break for five minutes. 20.15 comes and until 20.20 they go over again in even more basic terms what they told you during the first ten minutes. The rest of the show continues in the same vein and IF you are lucky at 20.55 you finally get on to the subject at hand, Ie V1 Flying Bombs and then you get FIVE MINUTES OF TOSSING CREDITS.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Webb...!
The trouble is the brainless idiots do.....
....!
They seem to love all this trash, which is infecting the lives of the sensible few amongst us..!
I have ignored television since 1976 when the dross got started, I just listen to selected radio programs now.
Even my "Freeserve" main page splashes the latest results of BIG BROTHER every day. That's without all the other media crap.
It's enough to want me to change my ISP...
...!
I am starting to dispair of human nature....

The really tedious thing is the knowledge that we in britain created most reality tv shows that then got exported around the world. e.g big brother and I'm a celebrity get me out of here.

I must agree totally with you all.
As Vintage says, over here we have the 'Big Brother' (second time 'round, I think) version where there are 6 or 8 people in a house with cameras everywhere.
EVEN IN THE CRAPPER (like we all need to see that).
Each week there's this big promotion and heaps of discussion amongst every simpleton alive, about who they're going to vote out of the house this week.
It's the most, petty, miserable and totally uninspiring peice of garbage I've ever had the misfortune to 'accidentally' see during the previews and promotions that I'm bombarded with during other TV programs.
The really pathetic part about it all here is, they have a "Big Brother' UNCENSORED version late at nite or on the weekends after prime time. In this you can apparently see some ugly sluts tits and if you're really, really lucky, a mans bare bum (weeeeeeeee!!!!).
Bloody raving twats!!!!
Anyway, Smokes. If you want decent Doco's that get to the point and have minimal repetitive content, as Blade says, go for the Fox History Channel.
The only problem is you'll have the opportunity to see any given Doco about 10 times if you want. They repeat them regularly. At least here they do.

that was not what i meant
The 'Big Brother' program had a hut somewhere in holland, with a 2 meter fence around it so the tabloid press could not see what was happening inside.
Then the most annoying TV person of holland got the idea of paradropping himself and a camera crew into the garden of that house...
Eventually he landed on the wrong side of the fence, with the audio guy, the cameraman landed in the garden, and got chased by some 3 security guys... that was more fun than all the 30 episodes of the crappy programme as a whole, and they cut it out of the official footage...

I don't think Big Brother is on anymore in North America, probably due to lack of interest. The reality fad is still alive but dying quickly. Thoes shows rarely make the top Neilson ratings list anymore and it now seens (by my observations) that Survivor (America's first of the boom) will too be wrapping up soon. The FOX networks still pumps them out at an alarming pace, but the shows are so silly, they just become ammunition for comics like Jay Lenno.

I'm refering to Charles and Camila. Hey, didn't Aussies used to all be British convicts.
The people who formed Canada were traders and rich Loyalists. The people who formed Australia were arrested for stealing a pig.
I'm just kidding of course.

The 'First Settlement' (Jan 1788 - Sydney) contained a large number of convicts and some free settlers. Also a reason sized 'detachment' of Army Regulars (Redcoats
).
Subsequent settlements in NSW and the other States (which weren't separate states then (all of Australia was called 'New Holland') were mostly 'penal' settlements.
It's true the entire country was purposely looked at as a solution to Englands over-crowded prisons.
the majority of prisoners had committed relatively harmless crimes (mainly theft - in order to feed families etc - many were Irish, the victims of Landlords bringing charges for non-payment of rent and such things).
There was also a reasonable amount of free settlers (pioneers, I suppose) which came over on subsequent voyages.
Both free settlers and freed convicts (after serving their time) were given land grants and many became founders of many aspects of what we now know as our Heritage.
It's true many of us are decendant of convicts but also many have free settlers as their legacy in this country.
(A liitle History lesson for those who may be interested
).

Another Sliders fan!!!! There are more than two of us after all! My wife and I met Professor Arturo in a cafe once, he also played the Egyptian bloke in two Indiana Jones films but I can't think of his name.
Also in reference to the rest of your post Brensec, most British (and other nations) colonies were used to ship out convicts at one time or another. I personally think that those who survived their admittedly horrible ordeal actually had a much better deal than those who were kept in prison here. My thinking is that once you were released from prison in this country (GB) you never lost the "stain" on your character as the vast majority of the population hadn't been in jail. In Australia it was not unusual to be a released convict so there would (presumably) be less discrimination.
I know from my basic knowledge of history that many ex-convicts made an absolute fortune in the wool industry after their release. In addition it all means that you guys get to live in a really nice place whilst us lot over here whose ancestors were "good citizens" have to live in this Sh*te hole.

Hey Smokes.
I love 'Sliders'. I think it's one of the best Sci-fi shows of the last 30 or so years.
It. like 'Star Gate', has a different, more interesting theme. Different from the usual Space ship goes out, gets in trouble, beats aliens and everyone's a hero, type theme.
I love Star Trek because it's the best of the best, in that vein of show. But Sliders and Star Gate have taken Sci FI a little further by steering clear of the whole 'Space travel business and all their 'gadding about' is done by other means.
John Rys-Davies played the character named 'Sala'
in Ark and Last Crusade.

Reality shows...ummm. I watched the first Big brother here in the US. Actualy loved it, but the next ones were a joke.
As far as reality shows go, I do like to watch "Cops". The one I dont like and it bugs the heck out of me is when FOX shows "Worlds scarest police chases" or anthing like it. Love love to watch the action but its the dubbed-in stuff. The person in the helecopter is always the same voice , no matter where in the world it is at. You cant here the sound of tires skiding from 1000' in the air over the sound of the helo. The words "just missed", "Barely missed", and "missed by just inches" are way over used. Every time the bad guy passes a truck, the truck always honks his horn. Now that I have pointed this out, remember it next time you watch one of those "worlds whatever chases"
Ok, I'm off the soap box...next!
