Hmm... I just tried to fly south to Antarctica and nothing is there. I know it was modeled in FS2k. Did MS get lazy or what?

Both I assume. They did add Antarctica but like Woodlouse said it's just big white and flat completely ignoring that some of the most challenging mountains reside on the continent. I guess M$ decided that nobody would want to go there.
There is an add on that gives you some airports in Antarctica somewhere here at Simviation. You get real life airports but a couple aren't where they should be due to the limitation M$ put on flying North and South.

the major problem in 2k2 is that the model of the world is a cylinder rather than a globe. So you can't actually fly over the poles!
