Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the startup position of an aircraft from the active runway to the terminal area of an airport?

Yes;
On the Location screen at the lower
left, some airports up have a choice
of runways and sometimes a terminal,
or ramp or something like that!!

Or if you're looking to start at the same place every single time you start FS, you can slew to where you want to start, then save that as the default flight. It'll save you a few seconds when you start up.
Great edit, Bob.&&&&&&Google it. &&&&

Hi.
Another approach to the "startup locations" idea involves using AFCAD. You can change and add startup locations using it. It also does LOTS more if you want to make an airport either more accurate as far as gates and ramps go....or to add parking to handle more AI traffic........... or to add or change the taxi routes that AI planes use.
(It does not change the physical scenery in the sim....just the "intelligence" that the AI pilots have in their brains governing their actions.)
You can find AFCAD in the downloads area. It has help files. And there is a forum section devoted to it that will bring you up to speed.
best,
