What do you guys think are the best movies of all time, in any category. Here's my picks.

Lawrence of Arabia
Return of the Jedi
A Few Good Men
Lord of the Rings

There's plenty of others but these are ones I've seen.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. Oh no not this again! Last time we did this it ended up being a 20 page thread! (In two halves)
Well comedy, it has to be Top Secret, action hmm probably any of the James Bonds, romantic Casablanca is THE movie, kiddies either The Princess Bride or the Harry Potters, black and white Young Frankenstein of course, and the funiest scenes ever would be the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Quest For The Holy Grail or the bean eating scene in Blazing Saddles Grin

I think that the lord of the rings: The return of the king will beat the pants off the previous 2 films.

But the Italian Job comes very high in my list.

I'm hoping Return of The King will be better too Woodie. Agree that you can't beat a bit of Sir Michael for a gas though, and possibly one of cinemas greatest quotes "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors OFF!"

If you read the book then you will realise how many battles and things they've got to get into the last film Ozzy. It should be truely spectacular and complete with a giant spider! Shocked

And cinemas greatest quote... I had that as my signature along with a picture of a thermonuclear bomb going off a little while ago. Tongue

Best Movie Ever:

The Shawshank Redemption

Tied for first:

To Kill a Mockingbird

Runner ups...

Ikiru (To Live)
Young Frankenstein
Das Boot
Saving Private Ryan
Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurai)
It's a Wonderful Life
Schindlers List

I am a big fan of foreign film and especially of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.  Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurai) is a fantastic film that has been copied by every film from 'The Magnificent Seven' (a direct remake) to Disney/Pixar's 'A Bug's Life'.

If you have never seen The Shawshank Redemption, I would suggest going out tomorrow and buying it.  Once you see it, you'll want it in your collection.  The movie flopped in the theaters, and then turned around and garnered seven Oscar nominations.  But by word of mouth it has grown over the years in popularity to the point were it is a phenomenom all to itself.  It has held the number 2 position on the Internet Movie Database's top 250 list for as long as I have known the site (which is about four years now).  Here is the IMDB page for it and the top 250 list.

No Ozzy, that was 'Best WAR film'. And it was over 30 pages long (record, I'm sure) Tongue, and it's not dead yet.
I'll ressurect it shortly. In fact, as soon as I see, or think of another film, TV show or Doco about War (good ol' History Channel will keep it going forever. Grin Grin Grin

Oh yeah, best 'all time' movie...............
I like the 60's claasics, obviously.

The Time Machine (Rod Taylor - True Aussie!)
King of Kings (I hope Jesus really looks like Geoffrey Hunter Grin Grin Grin Grin)
BoB (the all star cast)
The Longest Day (All All All star cast)
Private Ryan (Finally someone showed what it's really like - but do you think it would make anyone think twice? - me thinks not!)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (really great stuff)
The Last Crusade (almost as good as 'Raiders')

I think that's about the top 5 or 6.  Grin Grin Grin
