Has anyone checked out sssmokin (George Lindell) repaint of K. Malinowski's P-47 representing Col. Gabreski's last P-47.  Maybe I'm a stickler for realism, but I noticed some things wrong with it.  It doesn't inlude Gabreski's three kills on the ground, which were on his plane.  There should be 31 kills not 28.  Also Gabreski didn't have any nose art on his plane, he didn't like the idea of it.  And the invasion strips on the fuselage did not go all the way around it.  Just across the bottom, they stopped at the insignia.  The P-47 model is incorrect too,  I think the one Lindell used is a P-47D-30, it has a small dorsill fin.  Gabreski's P-47 was a D-25, no fin.  I'm not saying Lindell did a bad job, it looks great, it's just a little incorrect, don't take this the wrong way.  I just think him and his airplane should be remembered correctly, may he rest in peace.

Don't know where you get your info from Sock, but stripes DID go all the way around on the fuselage.......check the book cover on "56th Fighter
Group" ......showed his plane with the FG insignia......I also found a picture of Gabby in his cockpit and there were 28 kill marks, not 31.  I put alot of work and research into this with the help of many others who are history buffs.......so I guess if you don't want it don't download it.  Or, make a better one. One other thing, Sock.  I did this at the request of some other cfs2 people........and I did this to honor the memory of a great Hero.  I resent that you feel I dishonored him by my repaint.  I do this for fun and enjoyment........remember that it's freeware.  Also, here is a link to photo of him and the actual plane.........and notice that the stripes go completely around the fuselage.  http://www.56thfightergroup.org/HisTest/indexalt.html

Hey Sock.......everyone is entitled to their own opinion......but if you notice the texture sheet in the download,...it's for the P-47D_25..  I just didn't have the 25 in the game so loaded it in the 30.  I figured the pic is so small that goes with the upload, that it wouldn't make that big a difference.  But just so everyone is aware of it working in the 25.  I won't be commenting anymore in this thread so you can "let me have it" all you want..........LOL.  Just had to get some things straight.   Wink

I don't think that you dishonored him.  I looked for ''56th Fighter Group" and it had an artwork of Capt. Donavon Smith's old razorback.  Now I gettin a lot of photos controdicting each other.  There's two in "Aces of the Eight Air Force."  One shows Gabreski's plane with with 27 flags, propably before he was shot down, and it does has the invasion strips go all the way around.  Then farther back there is a picture with 28 flags and the strips only go half way.  Then on the cover of his book theres a close up of him in the cockpit with 31 kills.  Then later in the book theres a far away picture with 31 flags and the strips go half way.  And on none of the pictures is there any nose art.  But maybe I should check my references before I open my big mouth, I think you may have been right on the flags and the strips but I know there was no nose art.  Check the web for pics of his plane they're all over the place.

Now you see the problems I had with this Sock.  There were so many contradictions that I just had to "go with what I could" and just toss my version into the pot.  I had alot of people helping as best they could and took all suggestions into consideration.  I looked at artist renditions also because I thought that they must have done a lot of research into it also before they did their cover paintings for the books, etc.  Right or wrong, I did the best I could.  Franklin Mint made a model also of his plane and I felt that they had their reputation at stake also, so would have done alot of research.  I guess you can never please everyone......LOL.  Take care. Now I know your right about the flags, and I'm still a little shaky on the strips, but I'm certian there was no nose art.  You take care too.
