Steve,

This sounds like a fascinating idea.

I don't know which aircraft you're working with, but it seems to me that changes or upgrades to an engine can be made by editing the aircraft.cfg and .air files.  This could change the way the engine reacts to the throttle/prop controls, and I believe the changes in performance would also be reflected in the gauges, too.

It's been awhile since I studied carburated engines.  I would guess that the best bet for collecting data would be to look up the web site of a popular manufacturer, like Piper or Cessna, and see if there are comparisons available between a standard reciprocating engine and a turbo-charged one.

Then the next step would be figuring out how to apply those changes to the files I mentioned.  I know there are some tutorials regarding the .air files..........the aircraft.cfg files a more straight-forward and usually involve trial-and-error work.

I'm no expert on what you're trying to do.  This is mostly brainstorming.

Good luck.  Let me know how it goes!

In the aircraft.cfg file you can change the engine type. Look for a;
[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type = 0

The different types of engine are.
0-Piston
1-Jet
2-None
3-Helo-turbine
4-Rocket
5-Turboprop

Just change the number to what you want Wink

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Ozzy;

Wouldn't you have to change some of the FDs to compensate for the added power?

The reason I ask is because I have a T-34 Mentor that's super nice, but more power would be an excellent idea.

God, I love saying "MORE POWER"!!

Fisharno,

I agree.  It's true that an engine type can be changed by the switch of a number, but performance specs are a bit more complicated.  Due to a lack of information, however, I can only guess that we're talking about going from a piston engine to a turbo-charged piston engine.

Hmmmmmm.
