Has anybody noticed the historical references in Simpsons? Its interesting to notice.
For example
The evacuation of Saigon
Then had anybody noticied in one of the itchy and scratchy in the wacking day episode the name Oliver Stone came up. I think he was the guy that filmed the Kenedy assanation.
There is more, but I'll post it when I come across them.

Oliver Stone directed JFK, a movie about the Kennedy Assassination.
There's the one with the Wright Brothers plane.
"Not the Wright Bros Plane!! The Smithsonian's going to have my ass on a platter."

The Kennedy Assassination was filmed by a guy named Zapruder.
I remember us watching him get shot a dozen times in History class last year. "Back and to the left, back and to the left....."

lol...
What I remember most is "Bert the Turtle". "Remember kids, when you see the flash, just duck and cover." My history teacher has a cabinet full of historical footage.

Hi all,
"The Simpsons" seem to have a wickedly good time poking fun at our cultural icons. No one is spared from their good natured ribbing.

Another more suttle historical reference (or i guess you would call it a artistic reference) is Side Show Bob's prison number-24601. If you don't recgonize that, it's the number that Jean Valjean from the play
Les Miserables
also wears.

Don't forget about the moon landing when homer was sitting in his bean bag singing and eating and not watching it happening. ;

This is not the only time when they used the prison number 24601, Principle Skinner found a helment that he wore when he was caught in Namm
, it had the number 24601 on it,
To quote him 'It's a small world, it really is'

The Simpsons is most likey the only TV show that will, without hesitation, attack, pun or make fun of any and everything. It does not matter the country ( Marge saying "I would expect this from a french poodle, not an american dog") the person (Just pick a celebrity!), or the leaders of countries( agian, pick a leader) and lets not forget poking fun at their own network FOX. That is why they are so popular. The ability of Matt Groeing to make lite of any subject. The only subject I dont think he has touched is 9/11.
BTW, I LOVE THE SIMPSONS!

Yea, like the Model UN club one. Milhouse is talking about Poland "I heard they set a rocket to the sun once, at night. And there was that submarine with the screen door." Speaking of making fun of Poland, "All in the Family" was another show that would poke fun at everything. "God made woman from Adam's rib, see, cheaper cut"

Hello all,
A little current world affairs. Here in the Seattle area, just this past Memerial Day, the local Fox station aired the Simpson episode where Homer had to go to New York to pick up his AWOL car. In that episode the Twin Towers figured very prominently. I thought it was a very fitting homage for that holiday.

That one with the number I would never catch.
Remember the episode where homer got a trampoline from Krusty? There was a scene where the camara backs and shows a field of wounded people. I think that was taken from the movie Gettysburg, where the camara backed up showing many wounded people.
There was anonother episode when homer rides a nuclear bomb with a cowboy hat, just to bomb a group of beatniks. I think that was taken from the movie "Dr.Strangelove" where the character Kong rides the bomb because the rail wont release.
Then there was another Dr.Stangelove reference, when Side Show Bob stole a nuclear bomb, then the mayor and military staff meets in a war room with the world map against the wall with a circular table and a circular light fixture.
