With the exception of seeing some F-14's in action, I never really did like Top Gun that much.  I don't think it has held up as well as some others have over the years as say, Midway has.  Any movie that asks me to believe F-5 Tigers are Migs is utterly ridiculous. Roll Eyes  Aside from that, the scenes that are not in the air are mindless and predictable.

Great flying scenes though!

Other movies that use F-5's for Migs...

Iron Eagle
Iron Eagle II
Iron Eagle III
and on, and on, and on...

HP p7-1300w
AMD Athlon II X4 650 Quad-core 3.2 Ghz
23" HP Widescreen monitor/19" Dell monitor
Windows 7 Home Premium
16 Gb DDR3 PC10600 Ram
1 Gb GeForce GTX 550Ti video card
1 TB RAID Drives

if you really want a list of problems with topgun i could give you one, but in the end most movies involving aviation are inacurate. the thing with topgun is simply if your a russian official would you like to see a bunch of accurate mock up migs being blown to pieces?
although half those movies on your list i have never seen in my life so i cant comment.

I'm reading the book 'We Were Soldiers Once... And Young' by (ret) LT. GEN Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway. Very interesting. In fact, I happened to read on page 24 about a Captain Louis R. Lefebvre who was a native of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. That's the town I live in Wink I read further later on that he was wounded and had to be evac'ed out of the La Drang Valley on November 14, 1965 which was the first day of the battle portrayed in the movie We Were Soldiers. I looked in the phone book and found a couple local listings for Lefebvre but no Louis Lefebvre. My grandmother told me that he died a while ago. Cry She also told me that a husband of one of my mom's co-workers went to school with him.

that has a simple reason: the red-flag OPFOR did use Mig's in the past, but had great difficulties in finding the parts for them, so they reverted to F-5's and F-18's in russian splinter-blue Su-27 schemes.

The only migs used in US Airforce training at the moment are the german ones, usually in europe because they are pre-M models without air-refuieling capabilities and small fuel tanks.

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I dot remember seing any F-5s in the Iron Eag;e seriesand I'm convinced they were shot in Israel. This would explain the Kfir (Mig23s in Iron eagle 1) and F-4s (Mig29s in Iron Eagls 2) that and the second one was shot on an IDF base Roll Eyes

I stand corrected.  I remembered it was something ridiculous though.  I loved the 'Mig 4 Phantoms'  I understand it may be a little hard to get ahold of some Russian Migs for a movie, but I've been able to identify an F-5 since I was 12 years old, and an F-4 Phantom maybe even longer.  Admittedly, I may be a little more of an airplane nut than the average Joe, but I think most people would recognize an American plane when they see it.
