Alternatively, you can press Alt+Enter to run FS2002 in windowed mode, and there's an option in the options menu to for "no pause on task switch", somewhere.

I just set it to no pause like zcottovision mentioned above and then Alt Tab out of the game. You might want to get a little program called "I Will Be Back" (no relation to Arnold  S. ) it's a utility that lets you set a number of miles to fly and it'll pause after that and sound an alarm. Pretty easy to miss your airport when doing other stuff while FS2002 is running.

However, I'm quite certain that browsing while running any resource intensive program such as FS2002, or vice versa, is the main cause of many problems I see in these forums almost every day.
