Hope I didn't make it seem like I was un-patient, yes I will wait as much and if kill FPS I will just fly over it if neccesary to enjoy it, but I was just asking since you said it will be out in a week or so on June. Again, I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. But yes, as soon as it is out, I would fight for it, the anticipaiton is too much already! Grin

Thanks all for being so understanding.

Good ole FSTipster John Consterdine hit the nail on the head a few weeks ago when he said that as Kai Tak has been closed for 5 years now it's unlikely anyone will bother again doing a detailed model of it.

That exactly expresses my thoughts. And don't forget that as it gets dug up and bulldozed, you have to rely more and more on photographs and other archive stuff because the real buildings just aren't there anymore making it much harder and more time-consuming to virtually rebuild.

I'm not after personal glory or anything like that - my design work is not good enough for a start - but such a magical place can't be allowed just to slip away and disappear into history.

In a way I'm trying to create as far as I can some sort of historical record of the place. I want people who were lucky enough to go there to be able to say - hey, I recognise that place. It's impossible to get everything totally exact because of the constraints you have to work under in FS - and I guess some people will say why bother, just make an FS airport we can fly out of. But that wouldn't meet my objectives.

OK maybe I have got a bit 'too' involved in the Kai Tak thing - I couldn't keep devoting as much time as I am otherwise like all scenery designers - but I think ultimately it will be worth it. When I fly it on my PC it's personally very satisfying to know that I've made the now dead place back into a 'living' environment. I want that to be as convincing as possible when I do eventually share it with you guys so thanks for being patient a little while longer.

Hope this explains the situation a bit.

Roger

PS I hope FSTipster is able to follow things from time to time. He asked me to send him a copy of the software when it's done which, of course, I haven't yet been able to.

I'm sure I reflect the views of the 'Regulars' here when I send 'Best Wishes' and look forward to your return here at some time.

As a resident of Hong Kong 4 years before,I went to Kai Tak International Airport and I compared it between Chap Lap Kok (new) and Kai Tai.I like the Chap Lap Kok because it is newer and bigger thus Kai Tai is dirtier so...just thought to give you some opinions Smiley

Roger, Now that FS2004 will be released shortly, will you be making it compatible for FS2004 also?

Andrew,

Everything I've read so far on the FS design forums seems to be suggesting that the 2002 and 2004 scenery engines are compatible so I'm hoping that it will slot straight in.

Have you or anyone else heard any different? In any case, as far as I know, no-one is designing anything right now specifically for 2004 (except hopefully M$  Smiley

Roger

BTW

Jet_Leader, thanks for your kind offer sent privately. I'm mentioning it on the forum because I've said here before that when you're doing scenery you can never have enough local photographs showing the location or, sometimes more importantly, just bits of it.

I've used shots from Airliners.net and Jetphotos by people like Daryl Chapman, Colin Parker and many others without which it would have ben impossible to do what I've done so far. The bits I still need are more difficult because no-one would usually take pictures of them - like the small fire station at the far end of Rwy 13 (OK, as people probably haven't noticed it I can make it up!) and some actual Chinese posters from around the airport - especially some of the famous illuminated ones.

I've just been working on the metal fence around the Aviation Club and the way I work is to view what I've done from the Bell in slew mode while the program runs in the background. I've just seen an Air China 747 (FSPainter AI version) taxi to Rwy 13 and take off and a China Southern Airbus (Mike Stone converted to AI) leave it's parking spot on the main apron and taxi to the Rwy 13 holding point. Great stuff.
