How would one go about creating the effect of extendable wings? Would the effect have to be tagged to throttle settings or could you assign a keystroke to toggle the function. Or possibly a mouseable button on the panel.
Would aircraft animator do the job? Or am I going to have to breakdown and learn a new program? For the aircraft I am designing I would like to be able to deploy wings  straight out... not swing out like an F14.
I am using FSDSV1.6b designing for CFS2. Point me at a tutorial if one is avalible. All advice and suggestions welcome.

In your case, FSDS1.6b/CFS2, you can tag the animation to an unused tag - say spoiler - and use AA for the animation.

Thanks Felix
I will try that. Will any unassigned key stroke work? Or must it be a CFS2 function. I was planning on using the spoiler tag.

I am using a lifting body design. Would anybody know. What the effect of hanging  rudder and elevator Controll surfaces under the aft area of the lifting body would be on a real world aircraft? It sure would be nice if some smart programmer would come up with a wind tunnel we could test our designs in. Glitch

Any unassigned animatable keystroke recognized by AA./CFS2

CFS2/FS will visually accept your controls anywhere - The visual model doesn't know/care where you actually locate them on the *.air /aircraft.cfg file

I think Glitch means a completely different key function. There are very few practical options for an animated surface on an unconventional aircraft without using multiple parts. The spoiler key is usually used for odd funtions like the extending wings etc. This would be difficult if the aircraft has airbrakes/spoilers. It would be possible to assign them as flaps or maybe another option using SdlEdit.  I haven't used AA or SdlEdit for some time so I'm a tad rusty on this stuff.

Not with the FSDS1.6/Aircraft Animator tags. That's where Gmax & FSDS2 come in.

I am sure I can find a function I can use. Hmmm. Is the upgrade to FSDSv2 still around $25 if you are a registered v1. owner?

AFAIK the offer still stands. http://www.abacuspub.com/catalog/s492.htm#upgrade
Be aware that although the interface & tools will be familiar, it's a lot different to FSDS1.6. There are many completely new features & you would need to do some serious studying before getting much benefit. If you're otherwise happy with V 1.6 it might not be worth updating just to animate those wings. IMHO
There are usually alternative methods to get round these problems.

I've had FSDS2 since the day it was first released & still learn something new every time I use it. I find the easiest way, for me anyway, is to do all the basic work in V 1.6 first, then use V 2 to add the extra features.

Roger that! Just got my state income tax refund. I might go ahead and get it though, whilst I have the cash. But I have had Gmax for about a year now and have done only 3 of the tutorials the whole time. I have fs2k2 but don't design for it, and CFS3 was such a flop I can't see wasting my time designing for it. I may wait a while longer on FSDSv2.

My 2 cents,I have FSDS 1.6,I also have Gmax.I build in FSDS,convert to Gmax(with plugins).Once you understand the animation you can do about any thing.Im learning every day with help from this and other forums.FSDS 1.6 is a good program but limited for animations. At the beginning,Gmax will make you pull your hair out,but it's less and less everyday.Mainly don't be in a hurry. All things will come.
