I have recently download the sonic boom package, and cannot get FS02' to load the software getting unable to load Gauges\XMLSoundv2.GAU... tried changing the configure file and other tips and tricks but still no KABOOM do I need a certain utility?

Others have reported problems with this package. I keep meaning to check it out. Make sure you installed the XML gauge properly. XML gauges are usually configured in CAB format. The CAB file is the gauge. Paste it into FS2002\GAUGES, DON'T unzip or extract it.
I've pointed out before that the sonic boom is not heard inside the aircraft. This is just a gimmick. IMHO
PS. I just downloaded the file to check it out. This particular XML gauge is an example not in CAB format. To install it paste the Cazas folder & XMLSoundv2.gau into FS2002\GAUGES. Both must be in there for it to work. whm7.WAV goes into FS2002\SOUND. I haven't tried it myself. Please tell me if that fixed it.

To respond to my query, you need to have a fssound.dll file added to modules to remove the error. And yes I must agree it is just a gimmick, there is no KABOOM just a low freq thump when the plane loads and then after u break the sound barrier there is a slight noticable change in the sound of the aircraft but nothing to awful impressive. And from external views it is really quite obnoxious white noise. The best use is from a tower fly by where there is a thunderish noise and then the sound of the aircraft fades out slighly giving the impression of an accualt Mach+ fly by

Thanks for the feedback. I assume this means you got it working.
The author makes no mention of fssound.dll in his install instructions.
Quote:
Install:
1) Unzip "sonic_bang.zip" into a temporary folder.
2) Move the contents of the "gauges" folder to the FS2002's "gauges" folder.
2) Move the contents of the "sound" folder to the FS2002's "sound" folder.
4) Add the following lines at the end of "[Window00]" into the panel.cfg pertaining to the plane you want hear the sonic bang:
gauge100=Cazas!Sonic_bang, 956,105,20,20
gauge101=XMLSoundv2!XMLv2-Sound, 1030,105,20,20
Be careful, the gauges number (gaugeXX) must be different to the other gauges.
That's all. Now, when you pass MACH 1 you can "feel" the sonic bang.
If you're correct this might explain why people have problems with it.

It's amazing you know. I looked at the top SimV d/loads a week or two back and Sonic Boom was at #1.
All I've ever seen in the forums about it is disappointment. I guess the file descrption encourages people to believe it's going to provide something it fails to deliver at the end of the day (not in fact, but in perception).

It is working, or so it seems. for those people who have downloadied this package and are having the same or simaler problems. you need to locate a FSsound.dll file for your modules folder. I retrieved one from a DHC-6 from this site buy Premier aircraft design. the panel included this particular module file that is needed for the sonic boom package. To use this package properley after you get a FSsound.dll file copy and paste it to the Modules folder in your FS02' directory, Then in your FS02' configure file you must add the line [oldmodules] FSsound.dll=1 This will load the package with the the plane you added it to. You will know it is working buy again the low freq thud when the aircraft first loads. I have loaded it with a few different aircraft and received similar results. AFter reaching Mach+ you will here the distinctive thud again and well sorry for those like myself who expected the earth shattering KABOOM. ...... That is about as good as it gets. I still enjoy this efffect though so don't get me wrong as I said before if you use the tower view and time it just right it does become quite realistic but from inside the cockpit it is not real noticable unless you increase the spleaker volume to unbearable levels.

Well done for figuring it out. I would like to point out 2 things.
There is an updated version of fssound.dll which doesn't need the CFG tweak you mention.
There is a common misconception about the sonic boom. It can only be heard outside the aircraft, usually on the ground many miles away. Having exceeded the "sound barrier" myself I can assure you the only way to determine you reached the magic figure is by looking at the Machmeter. There is no sound & you feel nothing. If you could hear it inside the aircraft there would be a continuous ripple of sound while the speed exceeds Mach 1, not a single boom as you go through the so-called "barrier". My brother has crossed the Atlantic in Concorde several times & confirms this for Mach 2 & throughout the flight envelope. The original BA TV ads for Concorde showed a glass of water & a coin on edge on one of the passenger seat trays. Neither showed any effect at all when going supersonic.

Thanx for the tips. I myself have never reached the sound barrier. Though by pure logic and knowledge I will not argue the fact that there is no boom in the plane its self. I just have to agree. Just by the example of the commercial for the concord. It wouldn't be good customer service if ever time the plane reached Mach+ your ear drums were rattled, chest thumped, and the glass of beer you so craved after taxi and climb to cruise shattered in front of you. (Of course I have yet to see a commercial airline that serves beverages in glass). This would also explain why the effect is better enjoyed ffrom the tower view. It is still a neet toy to mess with. But sadly it is more like the christmas toy you begged and dreamed for as a child when you first found it four months earlier in the catalog, and wished for it everyday until Christmas morning only to learn the picture looked so much better than the real thing.

LOL, what a perfect comparison. This was precisely my point when I described it as a gimmick.
Very clever but soon forgotten.
