Black scenery (Read 571 times)

I have some addon scenery problems.
The places look nice in general, but have black patches in them, where, I suppose, textures should be. I have this touble with some Auckland, New Zealand stuff and with GZR_ biggin hill. I do have the  GZR_Base2001 installed, which I thought might help, but it didn't. I read that GZR_Base2001 had to be above the airfield itself, and have tried shifting the priority around in the scenery library, to no avail. The scenery is in folders outside the main sim folders.
Any help greatfully received.
Thanks

Toonice. Let's see if we can figure this out. As you have activated the 3rd party stuff correctly (via the Scenery Library) I suggest you deactivate the problem areas first. Then go to the area to make sure the problem is not with default textures.

I just checked out GZR Biggin Hill & it works fine. To clarify the Priority issue with GZR scenery, GZR Base 2001 includes files common to many other bases so must be activated first or arranged below (higher Priority number) all other GZR airfields on the Scenery Library menu. The best place for it would be immediately above the default scenery areas. (Although I confirmed Biggin Hill works with GZR Base 2001 I would normally use the later GZR Base 2002. Not sure where I found it.)

I can't check out the Auckland NZ stuff without knowing where to find it. A lot of 3rd party scenery uses textures from the Airport, VOD, Nova & other standard texture sets posted at SimV & most FS sites. (Texture sets, not the design programs themselves.) These textures are intended to be installed to the CFS2 main Texture folder. I also suggest you install Gerrish Gray's tree library. http://www.simviation.com/fsdesign_scenery6.htm It should be mentioned in the Readme with a specific scenery if these are required but it's a good idea to have them.

PS. GZR Base 2002 here. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002scenery1.htm
Use either this or the original GZR Base 2001, not both.

Thanks for the tips Hagar, but I have still had no luck. I tried another airfield too, Tangmere from sim outhouse, and that has the same trouble: black taxiways and inconsistent building textures, ie. some look grand, and others are grey.
I messed around with the order of priority and got all the buildings and trees going on Biggin Hill, but still had black taxiways and aprons.
Could I have messed up the download or something?
Thanks for your help so far, any more ideas?
Cheers

OK. This is most likely a missing or corrupt texture. either default or 3rd party & most likely in the CFS2\Texture folder. The GZR fields should be fine once GZR base 2001 (or 2002) is installed as all textures except the defaults are included in the downloads.

That Auckland stuff keeps niggling at me. I can't find any specifically designed for CFS2. Presumably you also had to install some NZ mesh. FS2000 scenery should be fine but might require default textures not included in CFS2. FS2002 stuff could possibly use default textures, either not included with CFS2 or not compatible with it. FS2002 default textures installed to the CFS2\Texture folder might use the same file names as CFS2 defaults but not be compatible.

The quickest way to fix suspected problems with default files would be to Reinstall CFS2. (Not Uninstall/Install). Please read the instructions on my CFS2 FAQ page carefully before trying it. http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2faq.htm
This will restore all the default files without messing up your addons. You will need to reactivate 3rd party scenery.

Is there a texture desity setting in cfs2? Some of the Building and taxiway textures may be set to show up in a higher density than Toonice has his cfs2 set to display.I have run into this in some cfs1 scenerys. I have not done any scenery work in cfs2 so I do not know if this is a setting in cfs2 or not.

Glad you fixed it. You might never know what caused the problem but this saves hours, maybe days, of messing about. Wink
