Need your specs. To run FS2002 smoothly, you need at least a Geforce2 or Radeon 7000 with 256mb system ram as well as at least an 800mhz processor. Try shutting down programs in the task bar and turn down the display settings in FS2002. FS2002 needs at least 100mb free system ram to run in Windows XP.  Also set your graphics card drivers (under the display menu in Windows) to high preformance instead of image quality.

On board sound chips and some of the cheaper Soundblaster cards (and emulators) can be real resource hogs.

You don't say which you have, but if it's on-board, it may be worth a search for more uptodate m/board drivers if you didn't include them when updating the others.

I'd look at upgrading your chip and m/board before spending huge amounts on a decent sound card though. You can significantly upgrade what you currently have relatively cheaply at the moment.

Yes, it looks like sound is the problem. Like Tipster says, don't use on board sound, or graphics for that matter. If you can live without sound, go with that, however you may wish to purchase a new mother board an processor if you have the money. ECS Elitegroup produces low cost AMD mainboards, I use their K7S5A model. It can run up to an AthlonXP processor and retails for about  $220US. You may also wish to purchase a sound card. A majority of people use the Creative Sounblaster. Their two lines, the Live! series and Audigy series are both very good and both come in 5.1 surround model. I'm starting to sound like a sales man at Best Buy here.  Grin Anyway, if you can afford it, computer upgrade usually never hurt.

Actually, I run onboard sound without any trouble at all. Sure, it chews up some CPU cycles, but it isn't that bad. In your Control Panel, punch up Multimedia Properties and hit Advanced Properties. On the second tab is a slider for sound acceleration. Set this back one notch to Standard Acceleration, it'll solve quite a few problems regarding onboard sound.

Have fun!

Get a new computer. Depending on money, if you get a computer that has 2GHz or more, you can't go wrong. Peace out. 8)
