I was just wondering, as I was really enthusiastic about the whole concept of not killing people , what to the rest of you think about the "roadmap for peace"

Peace would be good for all those involved.  I too would like to see that region free of turmoil.  But peace only works if all want it.  Unfortunatly there are factions in that region where peace works against their agenda.  The "road map" is a good start but will only work if all parties abide by it.

I agree with denis..........a roadmap is only beneficial if someone wants to take the journey.........if no one makes the effort to go down that road, what good is a map that leads to a place where nobody wants to venture ?..........
Its like quitting smoking, you can't expect someone to help you, if you really are not prepared to do what it takes, for yourself............ Undecided

This topic is far too political for my liking.
I wouldn't be supprised if it becomes locked.

I suspect you meant this well IAFPilot but this is likely to get locked..

Reason: Someone will make an emotionally charged one sided view which will spark a flame war ...

We strongly discourge politics here because it provokes arguments & hostility.   Roll Eyes Sad but true  ..... Roll Eyes

I wish there could be free speech - but that tends to get dominated by the aggressive/ mildly informed types who consider questioning a government as being anti national - whereas it is in fact the very essence of democracy ...   Wink

I hope my commet wasn't looked upon as being biased....It was only my objective troubleshooting side coming through, and has in no way, stated any preference as to how I personally would like to see the outcome of any situation.........if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but if there is something wrong, take the lead and show how to fix it as you do it!..........bucket leaks ? plug the hole!

The roadmap is a good starting point.

The journey will be hard, and require more cooperation than I've yet seen between the parties...but there is always hope.

Well Pete - you are right to a point. I am usually the one who raises Hell about some of the stuff said about the US here. And I am hardly mildly informed.

If people want to question anything the US does, they have the right, be they National or foriegn. Ask it as a polite question or request for understanding.

What sets me off is that they frequently couch it in the the form of an insult or veiled innuendo. Or "I can't believe how stupid they are" or "they are just doing it for the oil" or some other thoughtless parroting.

We do not need that here. It breeds contemp.

And we do not need it one sided either - where everyone can badmouth the US but if a Yank says anything about another country or in response to an insult, "God help us all!"

I recently resisted joining a brewing food fight in another thread that started with an anti-French post and then an anti-US retort. I requested that it be locked down and was granted that request.

I have no desire to attack anyone here, no matter the nationality.

However,

I expect the same courtesy.

In the french related post i do not think i said anything offensive to anyone; that was merely my opinion and comment. If anyone was offended then my apoligies. I was pointing out that it was a shame that governments cant get along, especially on things of little importance to their relations.
As a matter of fact maybe, pete, you should make it a rule not to talk about any type of politics and middle eastern or other military events that gives people diff. opinions as both sides have people who support it and do not support it. (and most of us, like me, tend to get a little serious and sentimental on these kind of talks)
This 'prohibition' should be started to avoid any future problems

Actually I wasn't referring to people on this site - but forums in general where I've seen political debate - the debate gets out of hand quickly even on well respected sites like BBC & CNN ....

& I was referring to the criticism of governments by that government's own citizens - not by outsiders.  Lips Sealed

Anyway .... My own personal opinion is that politics is just better off discussed elsewhere ....  Grin 8)
