please help me. i don't know how to land. i always land somewhere near the runway. When i press approach, do i still hold altitude, speed and heading? Thank u for ur help!!!  Cheesy

Hi welcome to Simv, i don't usualy use the approach and auto pilot i do it manually it is alot more convincing.  I used to be able to use the ils but it would appear that my facility files are missing, anyway i think that the approach just holds you on course and takes you down!   I have tried on occasions and my autopilot always makes me crash! Shocked

Hi there mate.

It really depends which panel you are using when you use the autopilot approach, they vary, some land you before the runway and some miss and some are perfect.  They only work on ILS.  First of all, you intercept the ILS under the glideslope, the you press the Approach button.  Thats's the only way it works.  Sorry, don't have time to explain any more.  I also land manually, it makes you feel good when you have a good landing.

Landing is the best part of flying, especially when you set the visability to 50 meters and do an ils landing! Shocked Grin  It gives a certain sense of acheivement

That feeling of satisfaction with a manual landing can't be beat. Try a manual approach from 10000' in hills on an offset LDA Grin Grin

For Manual approach, I like to use the white/red lights next to the runway.  There are 2 styles that I've seen: 2 lights that look to be on top of 2 (they are actually just farther away on the ground but from the air they look stacked), and 4 in a row.


I believe that one the "stacked" set, the proper glide slope will be 2 red over 2 white, above is all white and below the slope will be all red.  I could be mistaken about the above/below colors.

The 4 lights in a line are red on the right 2, white on the left 2 lights.  above and below the slopes indicated like the stacked version.

Keep them lit half red, half white, and you wil land just right every time.  Don't try to stick it exactly if you have trouble.  They closer you get to the runway, the harder it is to stay on the slope because everything gets more sensitive.  The important thing is to land softly, and I've had to wait untill abut half way down the runway to get a good touchdown.  If you have trouble landing right to left, open your GPS window and if it has an ILS system, it will have a green arrow with the piont at the threshold that you can line yourself up by.  If you like landing ILS and know how to tune the radios for it, then it is a bit easier, just steer towards the localizer and glide slope lines on your panel.  Taking the landing tutorial will also help out a lot.

This is a very easy way to land if you are having trouble lining up with the runway (Its kinda cheating but excellent for beginners). All you have to do is tune in your nav radio to the ils frequency of the runway (find it in the flight planner). Then go to navigation in the aircraft menu and select EFIS. Then turn on the master switch and select lock to Ils/LOC for landing approach. This will only be available from about 25NM away from the runway. All you have to do is line up and follow the boxes.

As far as the red/white approach lights are concerned the old adage:
                      White on white fly all night,
                       Red on red you'll soon be dead.
