Hi, I got some repaints for some corsairs and want to use them in MP games.  I copied the Corsair folder and made Texture.1 and texture.2 folders in them and put the repaints in those.  I changed the dp file (or whichever one it is to get them to show), and in SP they work fine.  In MP I see them fine, but the other pilots see me as a stock corsair without any markings (no 1, "Big Hog", the patched holes, etc).  Any suggestions on how I could try to fix this problem for MP games?

Thanks

Hi Archer. This is not a problem as such. Other players won't be able to see your repaints unless they have them installed themselves. They would also need configuring in exactly the same way as yours.

Oh, I saw the
ALLOW_TEXTURE_SEND=1
ALLOW_TEXTURE_RECEIVE=1
in the CFS2.cfg and assumed CFS2 had a utility to swap the textures.

Oh well.

I don't play online so hesitate to give advice on the subject. I'm told that changing those CFG entries (+ the MODEL_SEND & RECEIVE) would do it. However, all players would need to do the tweak for it to work. I understand it's not commonly used as it also causes bad time lag, lock-ups & other problems. Maybe someone who plays online regularly will add their comments.

Hi guys,
I do play a bit, well a lot, on line (MS Zone)Wink
I have tried setting all 4 of the discussed options on sevral occassions. Each time I am then unable to join a game untill I reset the options to 0. I always get the standared 'unable to get DP interface' (something like that anyway!) message.

I have also asked this question in the Zone chat area afew times and the general opinion is that these options don't work and the only way is for everyone to have the same plane.

Have you modified(replaced) the stock Corsair or added these as a new aircraft? Replacing the stock may prevent it getting past restrict and users of 'fairskies' will moan at you constantly! (I have nothing against Fairskies and think it is a great idea, just before I start a whole new arguement).

I sounds like you have given a somewhat more weathers look to your textures. Sounds great.

Perhaps you should post the textures in the download area then we can all see the same thing!

Last on this meadering post is an idea I have been toying with but wouldn't know where to start but might provide a work around for this problem.

To see another players textures or indeed whole plane that I don't have (and thus preventing 400mph zeros packing several cannon) I think all that would be required would be the external views (ie cockpit views, dp files, gauges etc are not necessary). Likewise I could live without seeing external payloads, drop tanks, bombs, etc (You should have dropped them before dogfighting anyway!).

Would it be possible to create a small app that would be run along side cfs2 in a similar way to Fairskies and looks for planes in the game that I don't have.
The files could then be transferred between pc's via ftp perhaps. the app would then delete them when you leave the game room. That and the fact that only the required bits would be downloaded would hopefully prevent copywrite issues.
There would be the obvious security issues but some information must currently be transferred by cfs2. It could only be used between 2 users both running the app that way some of the issues could be handled there. Virus's could be another problem.
And lag whilst downloading would be a problem.
I'm also no sure whether cfs2 would pick up a plane added to the aircraft folder whilst a game is in progress!
Could the planes possibly be added straight to the games memory/cache?

Many more questions than solutions here I'm afraid and I am unable to develop it anyway but as I say just an idea!

Actually they are not my repaints, they are White 29 and White 5 (Kepford and Killefer) of VF-17.  Both are available for download from this site (forget what pages they are on, although 9 seems familiar for one of them).

I fly with another guy and we both fly Corsairs, so I more or less just wanted something so when we were on the ground we wouldn't be seeing the same plane.

Here's another question for repaints:
If I have the stock Corsair folder and add several textures and modify the Aircraft.cfg so I can use them, will I be able to use the stock texture (Big Hog) with people without the other textures if it remains the same, or will the change in the aircraft.cfg make it so it appears without any markings?

Thanks a lot

Personally,  I see no point if only you can see the textures. I'm sure you don't get time to leave the cockpit to admire the paint job during combat. It might be best to use the stock aircraft online, that's unless you intend taking screenshots of course.  Roll Eyes
