Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the noisey non-sensical  background chatter I'm hearing  when I use the ATC feature in my MSFS 2k2. It seriously interferes with  ATC communicartions I need to hear when flying-- even when I turn the sliders down to low levels. This  repetitous background chatter makes no sense at all, is extremely annoying , and seriously  interferes with ATC clearances. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks,
Cubber

Usually I only hear the other transmissions. But, they're always clear.

Are all the ATC calls garbled or staticy? Is in while you're in a particular aircraft?

the amount of  "chatter" is
related to where you are and
how much "traffic" you have set
in. small local airports have little
noise and large metro air ports
have a lot of "chatter",
Welcome to "as real as it gets"

I think the background ATC controller noise in the game is fairly realistic.  One nice touch I really like.  It might be a little louder than real life, but not very much, and I can't imagine how it would interfere with hearing the controller you are listening too.

What's really funny in real life is when somebody is laughing really loud or just saying something weird in the background.  It's even better when it happens when a controller cuts ATIS and for whatever reason doesn't feel like cutting it again, and whatever 100-decible belly laugh or inance remark is repeated over and over for an hour.

Speaking of not hearing things.  There was this controller at Daytona Beach, FL, who was a real joker.  One day I took a tower tour, and he was down in the bottom working approach.  He asked an aircraft to say speed and direction, then sorta pulled off his headset so we could hear it.  It wasn't very loud, so he asked the pilot to repeat speed and heading.  Then he did it a third time to make sure those of us on the tour heard it.  Afterwords he said, "anybody know that guy?" (we and the pilot he was talking to were all from a big flight school at Daytona).  "Tell him I was just kidding."  When we walked up to the top where the ground and tower controllers were, they showed us the light gun, then showed us an isolated spot on the edge of the airport property where people like to park and make out.  "We like to blast 'em with the red light when they really start going at it," they told us.

I've experienced what you describe, once ,and agree it is very annoying. I exited the flight and started all over again. I haven't had a problem since then.

If it's so distracting that you have trouble understanding the ATCer then you can set it to display text along with the voice. That should help. You also can set FS2002 to pop up the ATC Window automatically but that gets annoying sometimes. I usually leave mine set for text but not auto open and keep the window visible when expecting ATC communication.

First time I heard it I thought it was a radion station interfering with my sound system. I sometimes get this Christian Rock station that bleeds into my speaker wire (I have my system wired for surround sound) and I thought it was that. I kind of wondered why that station was now acting as an ATC.  Shocked Grin

In my limited experience this can happen at a busy airport with lots of AI traffic.  It is made worse if you happen to have your radios tuned to both ground and tower fr4equencies and have the "both" button pressed.  That way you are hearing two radios at once and the chatter can become overpowering and somewhat unintelligible.  Add to this the stock "backgound sounds" of other controllers talking in each transmission....and it can be a mess.

SO check the button on your radio stack.

A weird thing that I get now and then is TWO responses being played at the same time.  This can happen eiter from ATC or when the virtual "I" communicate.  Sometimes it is not too noticible......... as when both voice tracks say "Baron N3457, you are cleared for takeoff."...... but it gets weird when ONE says that and the other says a slight variation of that phrase.  I can see TWO lines of text on the text display too.  I fione this "error" comes and goes and I can't figure out what precipitates it ..... except it seems to happen in heavy traffic areas.

best,

.....................john
