MD-83 still won't fly (Read 484 times)

I've tried several fixes to make the default (AI) MD-83 flyable.  None of them work.  No matter what my airspeed (<160) I get an "Above extension airspeed" message and the gear refuses to extend.

Has anyone gotten this to work?  If so please send me your .cfg and .air files (actual tested and working files only).

I thought I had it licked last week but to no avail.

Should I just download alternate MD-83's for flying.

Here's a portion of my current (nonfunctional) .cfg file it that helps.

The only mods I made were to the air and cfg files, and added a panel.  I'll try Microlight's fix as soon as I get off work and let you know.

I tried so many variations on this seemingly simple modifications that I had to go back and reinstall the aircraft.

Microlight's fix didn't work.  The plane crashes while sitting on the runway - crash, reset, crash, reset, etc.

The mod I'm using now, which still doesn't work, is from fs2002.com - it just replaces the air and cfg files and adds a panel (alias 737).  I've gotten about 4 different mods from various sim sites but they all have the same problem.

So I guess I'm back to my original question - does anyone have a fix that actually works.

I've always used md83fly3.zip by Tom Miller without any problems.

That's the one I'm using.  Dated 11/07/01.  Can you send me copies of your air and cfg files?

Since everyone else's works I'll try this as a last ditch and then assume it's a deeper problem with my system.

Sorry my cfg and air files didn't work - they work fine for me. Perhaps it is more of a system hiccup - good luck tracking it down.

It was taking way too long to figure out the problem so I just downloaded another one.  Since it works on everyone else's system it must just be a bug in mine.

Thanks all.

Shame - I had another suggestion ...
Here's your original 1st 3 contact point lines:

[contact_points]
point.0=1,   -9.20,   0.00, -8.0, 1500, 0, 1.08, 25.0, 1.00, 2.5, 0.9, 7.0, 5.0, 0, 120, 250
point.1=1,  -83.10,  -8.33, -9.4, 3000, 1, 1.85,  0.0, 1.50, 2.5, 0.8, 7.0, 7.0, 2, 120, 250
point.2=1,  -83.10,   8.33, -9.4, 3000, 2, 1.85,  0.0, 1.50, 2.5, 0.8, 7.0, 7.0, 3, 120, 250

Change the last 2 figures from 120 and 250, to 250 and 300. I amended my .cfg file to the figures you quote, and the gear would not come down, just like yours. Then I replaced the figures as above, and it works.

I'll give it a try.  It would be nice to know what the problem was.

Those [contact_points] entries are numbers 14 & 15.
Read the guide just above them for an explanation of what the entries do.

//14 Airspeed limit for retraction     (KIAS)
//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

You might also like to change the nosewheel steering angle from 25 to 75. That's entry number 7 in the point.0 line.

I'll mail mine now but from what I've seen of your description, I think the problem lies elsewhere.

Try loading the Cessna up first and then changing the aircraft to the MD-80 and see if the problem persists.

It works!  Thanks for all your help.  I applied Microlight's fix and everything works fine.

Tipster's md83fly3.zip (11/22/01) is apparently a newer version of md83fa.zip (11/07/01) by the same author, but it uses the contact points recommended by Microlight while my older version used the MS defaults.

I'm not sure who Bhofmx is, but your .cfg file still uses the MS default contact points and there's no radio configured.  If it works for you that's great.  I'll send you md83fly3.zip if you would like, or you could just cut and paste the radio configuration from the 737 if the flight model works.

I was reg. under bhofmx and got hit
by a hacker, this is the only site I.m

another name and address and see what
happens, yesterday I was hit agin, while
uploading the file to you!
My md83 works great and has full radio
functions, you may have a airport problem?
Have you tried another AP?
I did my own reload last night!!!
9 hours, had to reload mother borad and
all the drivers and fs2k2 and cfs2 and
now I lost about 400 aircraft and all

I'll still check the forums but not stay
