Weird problem.. (Read 536 times)

Hi all

I recently upgraded my PC, and since I heard that WinXP is made to work with a Pentium4 I installed it. I installed FS2002 and it runs really good... except for two odd problems... First water effects are non existent, either "detail" or "reflection" dont work, moving the slider has no effect whatsoever. Second the scenery is very good from 500ft up, but flying low, or taxiing, the scenery textures have very poor resolution, with no "texture noise".

Anyone has any idea what can cause this?? I did notice that these two problems have both to do with fine texture resolution.

The system is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512MbRAM, Asus MX440 128Mb. I was running Win98SE in my former system (P3 1Ghz, Geforce2 32Mb) and had no problems at all, and i am seriously considering going back to 98SE as XP looks like only a more pretty, more memory demanding 98SE... Sad

This is a known problem, to fix it add the following lines to your diplay.cfg file at the end of the GeForce 2 section:

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
[000010DE:00000171]
DriverValidate2=1

And Bob is your mothers brother.

Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately it didnt work...  ??? but if it is a known problem the solution should be easy to find.

I will start the usual (reinstall drivers, etc..) and see how it goes. Do you know where can I get addicional information about this???

thks!

The entry in the display.cfg file is already there.
but... it is remmed out with a semi-colon like this:

;NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
[000010DE:00000171]
DriverValidate2=1

just remove the semi-colon  " ; " and reflections should work fine.

For some reason, microsoft have left the GF4mx series of video cards remmed out here.

as far as your texture glitch close up, I dunno, could be a driver problem. The very best driver I found for the mx series video cards was 29.42, try it, you'll like it. I have gotten a slightly better benchmark from newer drivers but then quality suffers a lot or glitches are present.

Oh, and as for XP......... It's quite possible to make it look and behave pretty much like win'98 but it's more stable. Turning off a lot of the auto stuff in xp has helped me cope with it. (i hate anything on my pc that takes over control)
