Monument valley is actually located in northern Arizona and southern Utah, the approximate coordinates would be 37'N,110'W.
If there is another place called monument valley located in Colorado, I am not familiar with it.
I'm quite sure you are thinking of the one in Arizona.

Is the scenery at monument valley worth checking out? Should I alter my flight plans to see it?

I looked up the official coordinates for monument valley which are 38'N,111'W.
If you are not finding anything there, then the area must not be modeled in detail within the default scenery. I'm not sure about the availability of add-on scenery for this area.
I have been to monument valley in real life and it is quite an amazing place, with some of the most unique rock formations in the world, it would be worth searching for some add-on scenery if you are flying near the area.
If there is no such scenery available, it would be an awesome area for someone to create.

hello

I remember using some freeware scenery for this area from Simviation in FS98 which was very good.  Some of the rock formations were helicopter landable too, great fun!
