this question has been asked before...there are two solutions:

-start the flight with zero fuel. then go to aircraft->fuel and add some fuel.

-install an addon you can dowload i think here. when installed, your flights start with a cold, silent aircraft: no engines on, no lights, no generators,...
i'm sure anyone else here can tell you where to find this add on.

hope this helps a bit  Wink

Go into the FS2002\flights\other folder, and open up fltsim.flt with notepad.

Remove everything from [Engine Parameters.1] downwards, and paste this in instead:

I'm sorry, can't you just shut down your engines, wait a while to make sure everything is powered down, then save the flight as the default flight?  When you do this, FS will start at the "Create a Flight" screen with the information you saved, such as the airport, aircraft position, external camera position (and last known camera position), AND engine status.  When you select another aircraft from the menu in the "Create a Flight" screen and then click "Fly!", that aircraft will start out with zero in the N1 and everything else.

I may be wrong, but this seems to be the easiest way start out with engines shut down..

I always start where I left off which is parked with engines shut down. Only times I don't is to test a new aircraft or scenery.

Just make sure you know how to start the thing up if you start shut down. I know of one airplane that comes with FS2002 Pro that has an error in the checklist that makes it impossible to start. There are also some add on aircraft that don't have any other way to start except by (Ctrl + e) or starting the flight powered up.
