All of us, at some stage in our virtual flying careers, begin to miss the presence of real people. Nobody sees that greased landing, nobody shares the delight of a dusk approach to a busy airport. ATC and AI aircraft in FS2k2 do help, but the novelty soon wears off. Sooner or later, most of us will give thought to joining the online community. So we get an internet connection, join a friend’s session, and have a lot of fun buzzing him in a 734, or trying to fly it inverted just above him! This will also soon become boring, because there is just no aim or objective involved.
The answer?
Become part of a structured online flying community such as Livewire Airlines. You do not join a session as such as you fly online as an individual, but very aware that there are other real individuals doing the same thing near you. You fly a LA airliner on a scheduled LA route, making it as realistic as you like by considering flight timings, passenger/cargo weights, fuel consumption, etc. You also do this safely, by following rules such as publishing a plan of your intended flight route, announcing to others your intentions, and interpreting their messages. You will also encounter and interact with Air Traffic Control – real people who enjoy controlling and whose basic function is to ensure your safe separation from other aircraft. It is a fascinating, exciting experience – always evolving and sometimes frustrating, and it is guaranteed you will become totally hooked!
Livewire Airlines is a VA like no other. Born at the end of 2000, we have grown to be one of the largest and most popular virtual airlines to exist on the internet today. Beginning with a small hub in Westchester, NY, it wasn't long before we were able to expand to cover much of the Eastern US and introduce our first international flights. After we began service across the big pond we took the next step and opened the European division of the airline, Euro Livewire. By the end of the first year we were well established with hubs all across the US and a dozen in key cities through Europe. Now, it was time to conquer Asia and Australia thus bringing Livewire Express in the world. Once all three airlines were well established we set our eyes on the remaining land mass still untapped by Livewire.....South America. Just a year and a half after our first flight, the opening of Aero Livewire officially made us a world-wide airline.
Today, pilots can choose from thousands of flights with aircraft ranging from small single prop Cessna’s to the giants of the sky, like the Boeing 747 and even the still fictional Airbus A380. Even after your flight, Livewire Airlines still has more to offer with a wide variety of forums, multi-player server, live air traffic control, virtual financial opportunities and much more. So, if you're looking for a place to call home with the friendliest group of pilots on the net then you've come to the right place.
Livewire Airlines consists of 4 divisions. Livewire, Euro Livewire, Livewire Express and Aero Livewire. Respectively they represent our North American and Caribbean division, our European and North African division, our Asian and South Pacific division and finally our South American and South African division. As a pilot you are permitted to fly from any hub in any division of the airline. You are not restricted to a single hub or single aircraft. Navigation between the divisions is quite simple and can be done from the links on the home page or any relevant page on our website.
Livewire Airlines as of spring 2003 is staffing well over 1400 pilots.
