I think this may have been up before with a reference in a previous thread about circling to get out.
This is prompted by the suggestion to get a glider in from 10000'.
How many different aircraft can get in and out?
Take your favourite 747 and have a go!?!? Grin

Man that's a tough spot!

I started off trying to get an AN225 out of there (you've got to try haven't you!! Grin). 3 attempts later I abandoned that and tried the Baron. Got it out and in again first go but the climb out was tough. I did it on 10% fuel too.

Going back for another go on 100% fuel load because I'm in that neck of the woods on my RTW touur - want to know if it's possible and if so, I'll make it a stop.

The first time I tried this (many moons ago) was in the C-172.  I didn't realize I would have to climb 5000 ft but I eventually figured out I would have to circle a few times to get out.

I just made it (straight out) in the Lear 45 - 10% fuel and I was doing 110 KIAS at the rim.  I left 2 wrecks at the bottom if anyone wants to salvage.  I suppose you could cheat and taxi back 100 yds from the start of the runway but I didn't.

The easiest way by far was in the Gazelle.  In and out in one attempt.  No one said we couldn't use helicopters.

A 747?  Let me know when you make it.

It’s in Ecuador inside a volcano I think and I just got out of there with a 747 with no problems but with 10% fuel in the central tank, zero in the others and full flaps for the takeoff.

Yes BR nice going but did you get it back in??

Twin Otters do it with 75% fuel although it would be less nerve racking with less!

Anyway,no Xtreme glider pilots out there?? Smiley

This is all fine and good but when you take off you also have to land!!
Yes I got BR's 747 out of there with 25% fuel but I didn't  get it back in!
Landing's the name of the game Grin
PS. Gliders from 10000',Helicopters autorotate from the rim. Wink

Autorotating in is easy, but I'll take the glider challenge...
