I just recently finished a book titled "PREY", by Michael Crichton. It's about an experiment by a government-funded R&D team that's using
nanotechnology to create an advanced surveillance system for the military. It takes place at a secret installation in the Nevadan desert; the suspense comes when the experiment goes very wrong (of course)!
I've since been reading up on 'nanotech' at various websites.....this obviously has enormous potential in the development of artificial intelligence! Anyway here's a few sites that might interest you (there's actually many!)

now they just need to develop the processing system that can take all that data and display it on a monitor at a decent framerate!! Anyway, looks like there's hope!
