Greetings again all!
I have a Harvard (T-6) aircraft with aliased sound, and I have found an old FS98 sound file, that would be great to use on my T-6. Is there any way to make this work? I tried just putting the new sound file into the T-6 folder, but the a/c wouldn't even show up in the game. Is there anyway to modify the sound.cfg file so that it might work? I don't really know anything about modifying files. I have a hard enough time getting new scenery installed(LOL). Wink

You CAN rewrite the sound .cfg file supplied with the T-6 by changing the names of files to match the wav. files in the sound group you want to use--OR you can change the names of the wav. files to match those in the .cfg file.  Either way, you run the risk of repeating the 'file error' problem.  Better to alias the sound .cfg file to one already in CFS2--if you like 'em clattery, the F4F is great.  If you like 'em raspy, then the F6F works well.  To alias, take a look at the A6M5 sound file as an example--delete the one in your T-6, copy this one into the folder, change the line 'A6M2_Zero\sound' to read 'F4F4-Wildcat (or whatever)\sound' and you're off.

TongueI just noticed that I set you up for an automatic file error!  The command line MUST have the same symbols as are in the main aircraft folder title:  \F4F4_Wildcat\ and so forth.  Gotta have that underline widget!  Sorry.

Harvardfan. When you say "old FS98 file" is this a single WAV file or a full sound package? If it's the latter, pasting the set of WAV files with their Sound.cfg into the existing T-6 Sound folder should do the trick. If it previously showed up, installing a proper sound package should not make an aircraft suddenly disappear from the selection menu.

For the scenery, please try my CFS2 Scenery Clinic.

Greetings again!
This sim will never give me a dull moment! Roll Eyes
I had made a copy (and changed the name) of the Harvard I wanted to change the sound of, but neither showed up in the free flight list. So, I put the original into my "Hangar" folder and Voila! I now have a "new" Harvard with "old" sound. I know there are other sound files out there for T-6's, but this one has the sound I like best.
Thanks for all the advice! Smiley

P.S. to Hagar, I have read your scenery clinic, it is very informative and has taught me to install them. I was just being silly when I said I had a hard time installing them.
