Ahh, the good ol' days! 8)
I remember FS5 very well. I thought it was THE coolest thing, And I logged several hundred hours in it. I even did 2 or 3 RTW flights!

FS2002 is about as exciting as you make it.
If you want boring it will be boring, but if you want excitement, get some addons and make it exciting..
I started with one addon and now I am addicted. Give it a chance. Afterall, you paid for it, now it is time to make it your own....

It's like when your Grandma gives you the CD of "Bass Fishing" to play on your computer for your Christmas present......
...!
You think to yourself, "I'm not going to like this", but after you have played it a few times, and caught a few fish, it gets to grow on you...
...!
....or not...?
LOL...!
Cheers...

when kids on the flight got to go up to the cockpit, meet the captain&crew and marvel at the wonder of it all-then be given a pair of wings to pin on,(I still have mine)
Funny you should mention this! On my honeymoon
about 8 years ago,we were flying from Winnipeg to Calgary and during the flight I asked if I could go see the cockpit. Well, I was aloud and left my wife at the very back of the plane (737) and headed up to the cockpit. I talked to the pilot and copilot for about an hour and he showed everything there was too see. Then the stewardess came up and was going to take me back to my seat and then the pilot offered if I wanted to sit in the jumper seat for the landing!!!!!!!!
I thought about for about a millisecond (only because I thought my new bride would be a little peeved...) and then said I would love too. So I got to sit there for the whole approach and landing and right up the terminal. Then while we waited for the passengers to leave I got to listen in on the headsets while they were planning the next leg of the trip...
The whole thing was very cool and unfortunetly will most likely never happen again due to world events..
Oh ya..and my wife was only a little choked that she had to carry all of our carry-on to the front of the plane herself...
(and I know this is off topic but I the point is...enjoy what we have with FS2002 because for the majority of us, we will never get to do the real thing...)

Here's just a small collection of some screen shots I took in the S. Pacific to show that FS2002 isn't boring if you use some creativity and better yet borrow some from others. Thanks to the creators of the Bora Bora scenery, the Lake Renegade, Kevelcat and FSTipster who's Baron panel got me there. I threw this together fast so I didn't get a chance to look the other names up.
Remember all this came from three add on packages. Try doing all that in real life. I know I can't afford it.

What a trip down memory lane this has become! The only previous version I owned was FS98, which I used to think was awesome. I gave it a spin the other day and was appalled! I haven't been keeping track of the COF postings, but if that software is to FS2K2 what FS2K2 was to FS98, things might get mighty exciting.

I cought this bug with FS95 that was given to me by a friend as a "must have" when I got my first computer. I started flying and, well, the rest is history.Three computers and five different flight sims later,Im still at it! Id probably still be using 95 if any addons were available.Ive since passed it on to another friend whose now hooked also.
Im glad this is not a controled substance!

Ah, memories, memories. My first FS was the one that was current around the mid-80s, probably version 2 or 3? It fit easily on a floppy disk! Based at Meigs, you could go to O'Hare or (wow) Champaign too.

Hey Matt, that is a nice "montage" of pics. You should do some posting in the graphic forums!

yeah, women pilots, i can't....
oh wait a second, there are actually women out there that have had the drive, intellegence and patience to succeed in a male dominated profession while we all sit on our butts at home pretending to fly and posting notes in a forum about pretending to fly.
Can't agree more. I even saw interviews with 2 women who flew sorties in down town Bahgdad! How interesting is that! It is now common to see women pilots in the cockpit. Hey, who said MS FS2K2 isn't as real as it gets...........they even have women in the cockpits!!!!!

One of my friends is a female pilot of a privately owned Falcon 50 (lucky mare!!!).
She's not only a terrific pilot, she's also something of an FS2002 guru and a real whizz with XML gauge design. She designed the OAT gauge most of you have if you have my Baron Panel. I've since changed that, but that's different story.
Oh and she's also doing a gmax model of the falcon she flies. Her talents are endless!

Wish I could.
Sadly, she's a moderator in one of the smaller flightsim forums and her real life commitments make it difficult for her to participate much there, never mind anywhere else.
