Lifeless, boring...NOT what I expected (Read 4336 times)

I got a copy of fs2002 (professional) expecting stunning scenery, auto genereted scenery, exceptional terrain and most important - Landmarks.

I heard a lot of good stuff about fs2002 and its numerous advantages and realism. But i could not find any of these mentioned above. Does the simulator include some natural and "manmade" landmarks in the nepal-india region ? or maybe downloads are available ?

Microsoft focuses on Europe and North America and besides a few exceptions, ignores the rest of the world.  I do not expect fs2004 to be any better in that regard.  Flightsim.com has some downloads for India, such as landclass scenery and the like.  For what we pay, every major city in the world should have some basic scenery such as buildings, bridges, and other landmarks.

Rajeev I'm afraid M$ has neglected large parts of the world, they didn't put in Stonehenge etc.
Your best bet is to do scenery searches here at SimV, and at Flightsim.com, and AVSIM. These are the 3 biggest VA sites on the net. You could also try doing a search for any Indian websites that might have add-ons.

There's plenty of aircraft and scenery to download to make FS2002 quite exciting Wink

Ozzy72 hasn't got a fixation! I'd say the one with the fixation is the guy who put ROOSTERVILLE,MISSOURI(ID:ONO-love that, O!!NO!!!)in the menu.  Grin Grin

You are not the only one to complain.  Undecided
M$ although did a great job getting up this wonderful Simulator and really spicing up the "new" world, they did not bother to do any thing except placing a bare minimum airport on the empty terrain elsewhere.
Moreover most auto generated buildings do not match the place and the surroundings at all !

As you mentioned india, Taj Mahal is there. M$ even put it up on thier default Landmark Airlines B777, (On the tail) In the sim, go to Agra Intl airport and fly, a bit  north and then follow the river (Jamuna) eastwards, look around and you will see it nearby. This one's on bare minimum scenery as well.

By the way, as to mention i am soon releasing my scenery for Kathmandu valley (Nepal); It will include a detailed version of the Tribhuvan Intl airport (which i have already finished) and major buildings and structures which look significant when seen from air (all custom built in Gmax). I cant say exactly when it will be available, but as soon as i finish my Ilyshin Il76MT aircraft, I shall continue on the previous Kathmandu Project. Grin

Perhaps I'm looking at it too simplistically, but to be able to buy a piece of software that costs less than what I'd pay for an evening meal for 5 at our local diner, and then be able to fly anywhere in the world on it, is something of an achievement, I'd say...

For all its faults, it's still a terrific pece of gear, is FS2k2!

Now just exactly is wrong with Roosterville?  Grin

Believe it or not I used to live there in the late 50's. At that time it was a General Store on the front of a guy's house with a gas pump out front. We lived in the house across the road and there was one other house. It was at the intersection of a blacktop highway and a gravel road.

Nowadays it is a suburb of Kansas City sort of - houses on a few acre plots actually. Mostly the outer edge of the suburbs.

In the 70s and 80s Roosterville was the home of the National Chicken Fly Offs. People would come from all over the US and some Countries to fly their chickens.

Now if that isn't a claim to fame, I don't know what is.  Grin

Hey Oso,

Similar insanity happens in Bognor Regis in England, where prior to New Year's Day, people invent ludicrous methods of attempting to fly, and launch themselves off Bognor pier over the sea on said festival, to see how far they can get assisted by their flying gear: only to inevitably plummet into the merciless cold of the English Channel.

Good for a laugh - but not if you're the one doing the plummetting.
