Hi guys,

Let me explain. I had just come over from LHR, and was lined up on approach for KORD, (I'd had a gyro faliure, hence the batty PFD) when this guy streaked overhead at +200kts!

...

Is this a problem anyone else has had with projectAI traffic? Overall their stuff has been really good, but their UA pilots are just plain rude!

Heya Ric Smiley

I don;t think this is anything to do with Project A.I.

In my experience A.I. traffic behave in this unruly fashion all the time.

If you take a look at my recently published Leg 11 of the RTW tour, you'll see reference I made to some astonishing A.I. behaviour monitored from the TCAS radar.

The bottom line is that currently, all A.I. pilots have to be suspected aliens who's only mission in life is to wipe out all other human pilots. Grin

I think its 2k2 that is the problem not project AI. I had a near miss over Paris a while back (at least I think it was a near miss but another plane got between us  Shocked)
Every now and again the ATC/AI throws a wobbly and tests your skills (perhaps its a realism thing?). In fact over France, Spain and Italy in the summer I would expect something like this as the ATC are traditionally on strike for yet more money!

Sounds about right, not that I don't think real life ATC workers don't do a good job though.  Wink

Yeah.....the ATC can be funny like that if you approach too slowly, I think. I was recently cleared to land at Liverpool in my Cessna182SP and was on final when all of a sudden I had an Easyjet 737-800 fly straight over my head! I actually ducked at the computer and then felt a bit silly afterwards.....

Grin Now that's realistic, or scary!!!!  Gonna have to wear a helmet "Zcottovision".  Had the same thing happen to me, Heavy came in over my head while I was landing,  I could hear it but was so intent on landing, didnt know what the heck was going on.  It was an eyepopper!!!  Didnt think a person could sweat while flying a sim!!!  lol

Why do they call it a "near miss"  when two aircraft almost collide.  Wouldn't it be a 'near collision'?

Anyway, this sort of thing happens all of the time.  Even in the real world.  Although, FS doesn't play by the rules.  I think the real world rule is minimum seperation is 1000'.  Not much when you think about it.

It is for this reason why in FS I turn aircraft collision off.  Because it is a real downer when you are coming to the final of a 6 hour flight and you end up getting run over by another aircraft.

Never had a problem with AI flying over me on landing.  But I notice that if you land on the runway in a chopper just before another aircraft wants to take off, they ae not cleared.  Then, As soon as you leave the runway, even if only a few feet and flying to the aircraft, they get cleared and proceed to take off with you right in their face.

Something else I noticed is that ATC doesn't like to clear AI flights for take off unless there is an hour between landings of other planes.  I'm guessing so they can go to lunch.

Happened to me a couple days ago. I was on final to Love Field in Prescott Arizona, using real weather (really nasty wind. I turned on real weather, instantly lost 500ft!) and so Im struggling on to the runway. BTW, im in a Cessna 172. All the sudden im in spot view, and see this Moony tailgating me at a very high speed. He then declares his approach. He is told to follow me! HA! Im hitting the middle marker and he lands on the runway! I was ordered to go around, but i still landed because the wind exhausted me. I ended up barely getting over a 182S on the runway about to roll!

Have a look for a file called taxispeed.zip or alternatively  aispeed_2.zip.

Either of those 2 add-ons will allow you to adjust the maximum taxi speed of A.I. aircraft which will solve the problem. I have mine set at 26 knots which works for me and keeps it realistic.

It is my belief that AI stands for Angry Imbiciles.

Location doesn't matter, for example, I had to break right, and go around as an AI landied on my mark on the runway, and was not admonished by ATC at KABQ.

Last night an AI (in my new livery) passed overhead, how it missed my tail is a wonder) landed and ATC told it to clear the runway so it ended up rolling the length of the runway and taking off again.  I was in a DC-4, seconds from landing and was unable to get up enough power to go around.

I ducked, stomache goes to throat, and hands began to sweat.  This was in a no place runway in Costa Rica.

Aliens? Just drunk AI's I believe.

My 2 cents:

I was on final at Milan's Malpensa in a Piper and all of a sudden a jet passes BELOW me and lands, followed by another jet that also passes below me and is told to go around. I'm then told to go around, too. I felt like landing right on top of that miscreant!

I've encountered this unruly AI behavior also as I have documented in part 4 of my misadventures at http://paz8473.tripod.com
While on final in Jakarta, there were three of us trying to land at the same time.

Angry It was nearly a head on.We have Ronald Reagan to thank-busting "PATCO",but thats another topic. what we need is collision/conflict avoidance radar gauges.(heres another job for Tipster!) That's happened to me before. I was once minding my own business flying a small prop and was cleared to land number 1. I was on base coming in for landing and 2 large aircraft flew out of no where and landed, although it was too late for me too pull up.

You should have heard ATC screaming bloody hell at them! Grin

LOL - if you download my Baron Panel V2.1,you'll find it's equipped with TCAS (Traffic Collision and Avoidance System) Radar.

It's a great gauge by a man called Eric Marciano. It's only limitation in terms of your experience is that it only detects airborne traffic - not stuff taxiing and on a roll down the runway. For that you need K.Y.E.P. radar.

It's a freebie from God called "Keep your eyes peeled"  Wink Grin

Happened to me today.  I was landing at Dorval YUL, cleared no. 1 for landing 6L and there was a 737 on the runway.

Actually I expirienced the same thing my self!
I was flying the pattern, cleard for touch and go, I lowered my flaps and wheels. I was like 700 ft high so close to the runway at 140 knots when this 737 comes at max speed right above me and touches down! of course it took him like 5 minutes to exit the runway so I had to go-around once or twice.
What's the matter with them?

I have found that if I have my atc set any higher than 75-80% I am getting over run constantly.  But, if the atc is set lower so that the skies are not so full, then I can usually make my approaches just fine and not get overrun by aircraft that like to land at 200knts.

However, you all knew that;)

Ha! After landing at Osaka their was a 737 on my butt and ATC instructed him to go around, he actually aborted instead of landing on top of me,
I will include the screenshot with part 6 of my misadventures, which is close to completion.

Do you have a link to the page where those are. I've searched the downloads and can't find them anywhere. I can find a guage called "Taxispeed" but it's like the one  you put in the Baron panel for setting the taxi speed of the aircraft you are in.
