A lazy way to model a mesh. This is my cell phone mesh. Take a few photos, mark and mask it, then let the program - D-Sculptor - do the rest...
I'm looking forward to taking a plastic model and seeing how "far" I can get... maybe for some of the detail parts - cockpit interiors, etc., to get some of that "cluttered" look....

Cool..Is it possible to create a source file which you could send to Gmax for export to FS? If so, where can i get this, 'D-Sculptor'?

I got my copy of D-sculptor 1.0 with the CD included in 3DWorld Magazine, Issue 27 .. you may want to contact them (
http://www.3dworldmag.com
) to see if they have back issues, with the CD, available.
D-Sculptor does export to VRML, 3DS, dxf as well.

I had a moment of excitment the other day when I loaded a 'converted' DXF of an aircraft I'd been dabbling with - into something called 'Simply 3d' by Micrografx.
Well - instantly I was able to smooth, level - adjust this & that & paint in seconds - all with wireframe visible in optional window. I could even cut out any shape window in seconds.. I thought this was going great until the few braincells I possess stopped laughing & reminded me that this was a graphics only re-work & couldn't be exported in anything like a DXF format !!
Hope yours turns out with better possibilities
My main questions are these:
1. Will this be a 'flying object'? As in the phone thrown across the room. & Will it have a virtual cockpit?
2. Will this be freeware or payware?
Think Global. It's the world we live in.

You also forgot :
Can you make different colored faceplates for it?
Will it have animated buttons?

For some time i cant figure out how to get dfx file into a proper "3d model" in gmax.
I have an importer, but the only thing i ended up was a flat and actually horrible output. What do i have to do ?

Remember - if you're importing a flat drawing in dxf format into gmax, you're going to get a flat "model".
As a test, download one of the free dxf (or 3DS) 3D models from a site such as
http://www.3dcafe.com
, or even Dave Eckert's pilot figure from the FSDS library at Freeflight Design Shop (the zip file includes a dxf version of the model).
Import the model into gmax and you should see it "correctly" (Assuming you have gmax 1.1 or 1.2)

Thanks Felix !
One question still remains: Is it possible to import dfx files into gmax made from bmp aircraft drawings ?
I used a program (forgot the exact name) to create dfx files from picture files; probably thats why i got a flat output

Yes .. I have made vector tracings from cross section bitmaps , for example, saving them as dxf files, and I can get them into gmax. But again, you get a "flat" spline
It's easier to retrace in gmax.
