  Active camera is a great little program which enables a 'flyby' view. It replaces the tower view, but you can turn it off if you really want to. I think you can get it here at SimV.

It provides additional views, including flybys and virtual cockpit capabilities of walking through the aircraft and outside. You get the sensation of walking on the tarmac near the plane, even bending down, etc., to "inspect" the aircraft. Once installed you can access it by pressing ALT and using the pull-down menu. Do a search for Active Camera Pro (get the pro version) and download it. It's quite cool.

Yes it does work but I have found that it may screw up your graphics sometimes...but all in all it awesome...
