Hi All,
I know someone has already asked the question, but how do you enable the crash damage function. What lines do you need to add the aircraft cfg file and were should you add the lines ??
Cheers HSV

Open Aircraft.cfg with notepad.
In each of the [flightsimx] sections, add the following above the description:
visual_damage=1
Make sure there isn't already an entry in there that says:
visual_damage=0
If there is, change the 0 to a 1.
Be aware that the results won't be very spectacular unless the designer included damage textures. This is the case for most (but not all) of the default aircraft and VERY FEW add-ons.
Most add-on designers don't appear to think it's worth the effort involved to produce them.

Add
visual_damage=1
to your aircraft.cfg file, make sure that the aircraft has a damage map and was made in Gmax. All default aircraft qualify.

Try Crashbak here on SimV, one clik enabler or disabler, just got it and lists all your a/c showing which have and dont have it. Not sure how it works but....... worthwhile checkin' out.

I keep mentioning this but it's worth mentioning again.
These "crash enabling" utilities usually overwrite your aircraft.cfg file.
I don't know if this particular one does as I don't use them, but be aware that most certainly do. This means you lose ALL other amendments you've previously made.
In my case, that extends to ATC adjustments, exterior lighting adjustments, FDE adjustments, added texture entries.....you see what I'm getting at.
For the sake of adding one simple line of text, I wouldn't personally consider it worth using them for what you might lose.

True, why download software to add one line of text ???

I Like Flight Simulation!
I'm pretty sure the Lear has damage built in because I had a wierd experience with it the other day - I should have taken a screenshot.
I took off from San Francisco and did an instant replay to watch it. As soon as the replay started (on the runway) I heard a THUD like someone dropped a 2 ton plane from about 20 feet. The replay took off with a plane with no wings and fire/sparks coming from the undercarriage. As soon as the replay ended I was 1000 feet in the air with no wings. The flight did not last long after that.

Well I humbly apologise if I've got it wrong.
I've checked the texture folder and there's nothing obvious in there - it's usually a .bmp named "damage".
The sparks are an effect that's called and wouldn't be affected by the aircraft model. The absence of wings is a different matter though.
Due to my joystick still refusing to co-operate, I've no way of trying it out right now.

Like I said, I have downloaded it, havent used it but its supposed to save aircraft.cfg and be able to restore it if you wish. I assume it will save and restore all amendments as well. But, you know what happens when one assumes something. Gonna have to trial it before using it. Thanks for the info Tipster

Apologies to all - particularly Anish.
I'm left with major amounts of egg on my face as he's quite right - Microsoft did add damage modelling to all the default aircraft. I rarely if ever fly the non-gmax models they ported over and wrongly assumed that adding the sim icons to the panels was all they'd done to them.
