Hi All.

I have seen that Abacus have released Flight Deck III. I had Flight Deck II, and found it to be...ok. Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet, and what like it is?
(For international readers, that's a Scottish-ism for "how good is it?"). Grin

I'm finding FD II a bit dated now, but I like the easy install of a professional product rather than carrier downloads etc.

Thoughts? Smiley

Well Spyke I haven't tried it, but I know it comes with the much sort after ArrCab, so it will be v.good for catapult launches and wire landings.

Hi Spike

Hi have both flight deck versions and my sintetic opinion is:

The carrier model is very good but don't have many changes from the freeware ArrCab, the arrester cables  and the catapult are good.

About the aircrafts that came in the pakage;

The F-14 have a bad .air file. The F-18, harrier and the others are good. The cockpits are very good with nice virtual cockpits and nice clean guages.

and my conclusion is, if you are interested only on carriers and you have the ArrCab freeware version, don't buy it, if you can't get ArrCab freeware version or if you are interested in the all pakage, buy it.

I hope I could help

Spike/Fidji:

I was just looking at the PC Aviator Newsletter. (www.pcaviator.com). They have a 15% off Easter Sale going on, and was just thinking of ordering it.

I've used ArrCab since it first came out, so I kind of feel for the guys that weren't able to get it while it was freeware.

Just wanted to say thanks, Fidji for helping me make up my mind. I'll keep my cash.

Thanks folks.

I have tried ArrCab in the past, but could never get it to work quite right- textures didnt work properly, or some other varied reason, hence my desire for a simple "click to install" option. But if FD III is basically a boxed ArrCab with less carriers, then I doubt I'll splash out the asking price for it. I'll try ArrCab again (I have the zip files somewhere...), and see if I can get it working. If not, I'll keep an eye on the sales! Grin

Hey- that sounds almost sensible!

Thanks

The freeware version of ArrCab was a little touchy, but I found that if you took your time to manually breakdown the .bgl files and Texture files into their respective folders, and insert them into your Addon Scenery folder, you should be OK.
I had to do some playing with the files and folders to get everything where it was suppose to be so it would work properly. But, it works great now.

Be patient, and it'll all come together for you.

I have Flight Deck III and very pleased with it. Especially the ArrCab.   The only thing that bothers me about the software is that it only gives you 1 carrier in 4 locations. Is there any download that will allow you to place a carrier in any location? (that can be landed on) . Or is there a download with more carriers around the world?

Thanks, Rick

If you already have the last freeware version of ArrCab, on page 20 of the SimV Scenery section is all of the available carriers placed around the world, for the freeware ArrCab module only. I'm pretty sure it won't work with FDIII.

Do a search for ACcvAll3.zip.

S!

Well, things have happened!

First, my local "Game" store had "Carrier Operations" (aka Flight Deck III) in stock, and second I had a voucher in my pocket to take the price down to £15, so I took a chance! Also, this is an updated version with a total of 21 carriers included! Good value, though I've only tries three at the moment: so far very realistic and detailed.

I was looking for a "click to install" cop-out. I didn't get it! Angry I had the same problem with Flight Deck II: scenery didnt auto-install- I had to install it manually using the FS scenery editor. Not hard, just a fiddle.

I've noticed that there are some graphical anomilies. For example, if you fly an approach too low, you just sail on through the carrier, not crash into it! Also, the F-14s tyres sink "into" the deck when standing. Oh well...

Fidji's opinions of the aircraft are spot-on. The F-14 truly sucks- must get a better one, and an A-4 if possible! I like the fact that the mirrors in the aircraft actually work. Nice.

I think it's worth the money I paid, but dont know about £25 full price. Works fine though, so I'm pretty pleased with it!

Thanks for the input anyway, but what's the best F-14 I can get? 8)
