As in the topic below asks how to start at a water runway. It brought up a question for me, Roll Eyes Is there anyway to start off on a carrier, I really doubt it, but might as well ask.

Yes, it's possible with 3rd party carriers. Unfortunately ArrCab is now payware but you can still get the carriers. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002scenery20.htm

What makes the aircraft carrier stop you is the Arrestor Cables, now payware. It comes with a few more options so you might think about buying it unless you are good enough to land a jet on a 100 foot runway. A cessna is a possiblitie, a jet, no.

It can be done in a jet, you just need a phenominal headwind as you approach. But on the whole its only props with a low stall speed that get away with it.

UM,I'm really interested in the little twins that land on those carriers with the mail and such for all you hotshot jetjocks. There are Trackers all over the place! Where are the humble onboard delivery aircraft??

We used a special autospoiler/tailhook gauge in CFS1. This acts as a virtual tailhook when you touch the deck. The spoiler value has to be set properly in the AIR file of the aircraft. I don't know if it works in FS2002. If not, try the old squad trick by applying parking brakes before trapping.  Wink

Can you place these carriers where you want them? Or better yet, where you need them? I looked at the decription for ARRCAB but it doesn't tell you much.  Tongue

The carriers are static scenery objects in various fixed locations. ArrCab gives you the cat launches & arrester wires.

Wolfy, I would love to see this done...I have tried many times in my F-16 with no arrestor cables and no matter who slow I try to make my approach I cannot seem to get her stopped before the end of the boat...(If you do accomplish this, can you post a pic or 2 about it?!)

Thanks and good luck! Grin

That applies to you too Ozzy! I have tried even with a killer head wind and I just seem to get to stop!

Thanks...

Try some of the early F14 models here, they have a thing called a super spoiler which works along the lines of what Hagar is suggesting.

With Arrestor Cables, you can land any aircraft on the flight deck. It will stop anything with a Tricycle gear. Tail draggers are a little different. But, it's unrealistic with anything but Navy Carrier aircraft.

It is possible, however, to increase the spoiler/airbrake numbers in the .air file to make, essentially, "Super-spoilers", that will make you go from 140 knots to 0 in about 2 seconds. I use a utility called Flight Dynamics Editor, (found in the SimV utilities section). Launching without ArrCab, is totally unrealistic, but it can be done.
