I was just wondering what you classed as your most remarkable landing in FS2k2.
I've got 2 memorable ones, a Seafire 47 in a thunderstorm at night with 80' crosswinds, and I snagged the 1st wire on the carrier, and my Tiger Moth in a crosswind so strong that it blew me off the runway after touchdown (I only had 1% fuel left), and I ended up between 2 trees without a contact! Amazing isn't the word after 5.5 hours on the stick! No AP!!!!

My most memorable landing was actually one that went wrong!

It was a 767-300 into Chicago, and I forgot to put the gear down. Needless to say I slid the entire length of the runway - and then some. The only time I've ever playes FS2002 and actually been shocked and panicked!

Meigs, default learjet. Me being me, I came in WAY TOO FAST, it was in multiplayer so someguy witnessed it too, anyway I hit the ground, pretty nice, but way too fast, so I "jammed" the rudder full right and I did a 180* degree spin and stopped nicely, a lot of the runway was black. Cheesy

The first one  is when I had FS 5.1. I had a Northwest 747 (my first heavy) that I just could not get to land correctly. After about 5 tries I walked away and had a few suds. I came back and landed the darn thing perfectly. Much like the pilots that got busted from NW airlines. The other one was just last night. I attemped to land my ERJ-145 at SESM. (the "strip in the hole"). I hit hit runway about 1/2 way down and at 220mph. Stopped it right at the wall

One of my first mulitplayers on FS2k.
I was in a 777 and (being the 15yr old amature who never flown anything upto then Roll Eyes Tongue) approched the rwy far too fast without flaps. I got a rwy intrusion a few feet away from where i was aiming to touchdown, A Sopwith camel. Cos of my speed i bounced off the tarmac... flew over the camel, landed again, slammed the breaks and stoped cm's away from the edge of the other side! Shocked

Hey Loomex, your little icon on the left, what is it of?
Well anyway, my best landing is with a bombardier. I was coming is nice and slow, right before I touched the ground I pulled up and I was going along the runway about 2 inches off the ground, then finally touched.  Grin

I was once flying acrossed North America in a concorde and I lost all my systems. Electronics, radios, everything was out. I found a moderately large international airport. Since I couldn't get the undercarrage down, I slid the whole length of the runway sparks flying everywere and into a hillside past the airport. Let's just say I lost the aircraft! Grin

Mine was pretty recent. A little airport in Pakistan. Mountains 14,000 ft on all sides and the airport is 4,000 ft. in about a three or four mile long valley. Runway however isn't paralell with the long axis of the valley. I brought the King Air in over the mountains and then had to drop all the way down to pattern height to land.

Guasipati in my last leg. I'm still amazed I got down in one piece.

It was a night landing with no navaids apart from the GPS in pitch darkness. (no waypoints set).

Kind of like doing an IFR landing with the hood up in the cockpit and the radios turned off LOL.

GrinMy first flight and my first landing in the default cessna  lol.  Took the whole length of the runway, the grass, between trees, a lot of banging around and when I finally stopped it was on the side of a hill, she gently rolled down the hill backwards and stopped with the tail in the water, and the engine was still runnin'  Wish I had pictures of that one.  It was so realistic, I had to get my wife to give me mouth to mouth resuscitation and administer first aid after.  lol   I have gotten better since then, but whats that old saying "You never forget your first"!!!!!!  AngryI remember that incident, Loomex  The pilot was a veteran driver (Colonel), I believe, who had been warned about doing that manoeuvre and did it again anyway, takin' them right into the ground.  Remember there was a lot of publicity about it (A whole program if I remember correctly) Angry Lips Sealed Cry

And if I remember correctly, it was at an airshow Sad

My best land ever was made on a B747-300 of Alitalia at the Kai-Tak Airport on Hong Kong. It was right on the centerline, perfectly aligned within the glideslope.

There are some memorable ones for me but two stand out. They are both night landings into airports without runway lights. The first I think was Chile and I aimed for the blackest spot on the screen and watched the GPS but that'll only get you so far. Second was Afghanistan and I could just separate the difference in blackVblack to find the runway.
Does FS give info on which airfields don't support night movement?

One landing I put in the "Sheer Luck" catagory....
(FS2000 Pro)
Late one night I was taking the C-5 from Travis to Randolph. I set up FSNav for the flight, took off and started the AP at altitude and settled back into the chair. Well, it was a new desk chair, plenty comfortable, too. And, you can guess what happened.  Shocked
When I woke up, I was well short, but on a perfect track for the runway at about 500, and falling fast at about 400kts. No flaps. No gear. I didn't even try to recover. That scared the crap out of me.

Moral of the story; Don't go to sleep in da seat!

Just had a great one. In the 747, KLAX with low vis(less then 10 miles), thunderstorm, 170 mph+ winds 200mph+ gusts. The 747 was shaking, I landing on the runway, amazingly. anyway, later, My Cessna 172 was flying sideways in similar weather.

To fly or not to fly,....
that's a stupid question

flying a DC4 from Roswell to Albuquerque's SunPort,
It was in the early AM and shouldn't have been flying as tired as I was.  I mis read and with bad hearing I leveled out on a great approach flaps full down gear down, wings level ..... air speed was nominal, about 145 KIAS I believe, I set this bird down on the second mark, and used flaps, and brakes to slow it down and turned off the taxiway like I owned it.

EXCEPT, that I had landed on the wrong runway.  I don't fly that tired anymore, and write all approach instructions down as they come in.  Maybe I should change my name to Pilot Error?

For those of you who have not checked out this site you must go see it! Its truly amazing!! Shocked

Expecially amazing is a video clip of various planes trying to take off and land in a killer crosswind...

Look for a video clip called "Gusty Landings"

I pity the poor passengers in these planes...
It really shows some amazing piloting skills though...

THESE are the most amazing landings.

I'd have to say all those times when I'm just messing around without ILS, so I'm not lined up with the runway untill about 100' out.  Ever been at a 45 deg angle to the runway in a 737 at 100' and landed, staying on the runway?

BTW: the B-52 video is a streaming vid.  You can forget about it if you have dial up.  Buffer, play a second, buffer play a second, buffer...  And because it streams, it can't be downloaded completely, and then watch it all.

I have 2 great landings.

The first was at O'hare in a multiplayer game. I was flying a Swordfish Floatplane... God did those sparks fly! Grin

The second one was a perfect formation landing with a 767 while I was in a Corsair. Did the approach and every thing! Grin

Just did my best landing. It was a small airport in Indonesia in the dark no lighting or ILS. I set up FSNavigator to bring me in on the approach (an idea I got from someone here on the forum but I forget who) with one waypoint about 5 miles out at 2,500 ft and another at the end of the runway at 10 ft.  I was just about to wave it off and divert to another airport with an ILS when I saw the runway in my landing lights so I disengaged the AP and flared for a perfect touchdown.  8)

Who says you can't do GPS approaches in FS2002? Worked like a charm.

8)

Way back in CFS-1! Flying an fighter intercept in one of the Battle Of Britain missions, and got involved in a furball with Me-109s. I got a couple, but was badly shot up, with my plane leaning over to port, and I had to fly with the stick way over starboard to fly level. My landing gear was also inoperable! Managed to glide it in back to base, and carried out what looked like a perfect crash-landing with no gear! Really enjoyed that! Wink

I watch the local turboprop guys turn in on final right on the threshold and think,'I can do that!'
So I do it in the KingAir and then realise the scraping sound was the wingtip scraping the ground as I turn on final.  Roll Eyes
