Yepperz, and you can expect vivid discriptions and excellent screenshots on my website sometime. (points to sig) Anyway, I've got a pretty good idea on my route:
Start at home airpor(KONT) in Southern  California
Fly a bit NE so I can fly along the Sierra-Nevadas
Turn a bit more NE so i can fly along the Colorado Rockies and the Canada-USA  border, then I'd point towards St. Louis, then go to NYC, Niagra, then fly through canada a little bit, scoot across the pond, fly across the UK, see stonehenge, and London, scoot down to Africa, see the pyramids, fly to india, see the Taj Mahal(it's in India right), fly to Moscow, then go WAY down to australia(sydney etc.) then I'd make my way through South America and BAm, back to KONT.
Anything I should see, that I'm flying near, that isn't listed?
BTW, any suggestions for aircraft(Prop only),that can make it across the pond?

Best of luck with it. Smiley

Make sure you've downloaded add-on scenery for StoneHenge - Microsoft left it out.  Not only that, but they left a hole in the scenery where it should be meaning if you fly anywhere near it, you'll get a string of errors.

You're going to need a hefty prop to get across the Pacific from Australia to S.America. It's about 5,000nm. If you stop at Hawaii, that cuts it down to 2 legs of about 2,500nm, but it's still a fair distance.

You could fly using the B-17. It's got good range.

Sorry - got myself confused. I was talking Australia to N.America there. Humble apologies.

I've no idea what distance it is from Australia to South America but I'd think it's still going to be a big hop. You'll need something bigger than the Baron I use I think.

If you go out through Tahiti there is a Chilean island east of there that will gety you in range of the Galapogas islands and so to Colombia.
In a turboprop that would be the best way I think but check your mileage as I've only done it in a small jet myself.

Went and had a look and you continue East to Chile easier than what I said earlier. I did that long hop to Galapagas to save going all the way down South America.  A King Air should eat that, even a Baron! Well, maybe the right Baron!!

he,heh, use a N-22. it's a small aircraft for bush flying and it has a maximum range of,let's say, 400nm. i flew from montreal, canada to anchorage, alaska with it and i had to refuel about 5 times...Grin

All this talk about "range" got me thinking,, and what better way to use up thought energy than FS2002  Wink

The Baron is listed as having a max range of about 1,500 nm. I just took a Baron up for testing and found the best distance/fuel consumption:

At 12,000 msl with props and mixture "optimized", I got roughly 24 g/hr with a ground speed of 180 kts. OK,, with 142 gallons of TOTAL fuel available,,,you do the math >?  Alright,,  roughly thats 1,100 nm.

I know the default aircraft.cfg file puts 4   170 lb passengers in there and I'm sure the range is based on just a pilot, but that still doesn't account for the huge ammount of fuel you'd burn climbing out to 12,000  ??? Not quite sure how you'd squeeze 1,500 nm out of it.

Anyway,,  unless you plan to cross the ponds up north (Alaska and Greenland/Iceland), a Baron is not a "Globe-trotter".....  UNLESS..... You remove the passenger load-stations and replace them with a big, 100 gallon center tank (600 lbs)  Grin   That put's you close to 1,900 nm  in range...

Surely Tipster knows a way around the planet with no legs (other than north) longer than 1,900 nm ?

I'm discovering the route as I go along LOL.

The range is based on a stock Baron.

Unfortunately, the reason you can't get anywhere near it in the default is because Microsoft didn't realise that for the last 6 years or so, Raytheon (who manufacture the Baron) have been producing them with 97 gallon fuel tanks - 194 gallons in total.

Easter Island in Chile has a great runway. It was made for the main purpose to allow a space shuttle to land there.

Then, you can go to an island called "Juan Fernandez" maybe.

Have you considered using the bering straight to get from asia to North America then travelling south? It's easier on the aircraft's range no doubt. And for aircraft have you considored the Meridian, it's a fairly good aircraft, or the Pilatus PC-12. Smiley

Way to go BloodWolf. Good luck mate. I'd have tried the RTW thing, but Tipster got there first, so I'm doing all the European capitals in alphabetical order instead, I'll try and get a couple more legs done over Easter.
Good luck anyways and keep us posted on your progress.

For getting across the atlantic, I'm gonna go across canada and Greenland..then there are some ariports along the way, should be able to make it in my plane. It's raining in my current location, and snowing along my route in the Sierra Nevadas, going to be an interesting day. I'm not sure how I'll release updates about my fligt, I was thinking my website, but that would be such a pain in the rear to do. Hmm, I'll think about it...

Cheesy Happy Landings,Bloodwolf! I did that&it was a bitch! Heres my flight profile:Lockheed Constelation"Super H"(NO GPS) Departed Cleveland-Hopkins(KCLE) to NY La Guardia to London Gatwick. Then on to Cairo to scope the pyramids. From Cairo I took a northerly route over Southern Asia so I could orbit Mt Everest a couple times before heading to Hong Cong.(great sight, but the connies engines really wheezd,asFL23 is about her limit) After leaving Hong Kong,I headed south to Sydney-one of the finest cities on the globe! From there it was on to Tokyo, then to honolulu,to LAX , then for the final leg of my global oddesy-home to cleveland. The whole trip took me 6 days, and I kissed the virtual ground when I got it done, but it was a Blast!,and the Constelation is a wonderfull plane from a bygone era. anyway, enjoy your flight, and good luck-Dont forget to write! Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Yah,I thought about  Moscow for the RTW,but Id been there in earlier flights, and found the runways rather short."Connie" needs alot of concrete,as it has no autobrake/thrust reversers, etc. And it needs even more for takeoff.KCLE 5R is 8000Ft and I needed every inch! I am thnking of doing this again,(youve inspired me) mabey this time with a DC-3;Good range, exellent handling,STOL,but dreadfully slow.Ill take the "Northern route",I.E.:Cleveland to Gander to Thule to Gatwick (I hate Heathrow-to mutch traffic) to Tempelhoff to Moscow to Vladivostok to Ancorage to Winnipeg to O`Hare to home-KCLE-Hopkins.HEY,Ill meet you in Moscow & buy you a Vodka-How bout it? 8)

This all depends on what type of pilot you are.Are you a bush pilot type,or do you go for heavy jets? On my RTW,I chose Super Constelation because it offers long range but requires piloting skills not needed with a 747-400 with all the whizz-bang extra gizmozs.I recomend The "connie".Its been some time, but I downloaded both the National airlines"Super H"and EXELLENT Panel right here at simviation-check `em out

Hi,

If you like I can prepare flight plans for each and every leg you wish. What I need is type of aircraft you want to fly with payload, type plan you wish ie VFR or IFR. and points of interest you want to visit. It looks like fun to me to prepare routes for such adventure. There may be others who want to join in a multiplayer flight or even join flights on VATSIM.

If your going over the atlantic via Greenland and Iceland then you will probably end up landing at Stornoway in the outer hebredies. Its a good airport and can take any aircraft (longest runway in the UK outside of heathrow) and is a nice place to stop before going south to the rest of the UK.
