I know this has nothing to do with FS2002.  It may be moved, but more people view this board..

What happened to FSTipster??  All his posts are gone and his profile is gone..
What did I miss?

Hmmm... His posts per say (original topics started) are here, but none of his actual postings/replies and his name has been changed `, that is the only thing that denotes posts originally started by him... Where did he go?

Yeah, very odd indeed.. However, I don't think his computer crashing would constitute such a dramatic change to his posts, profile, and name..

Guys, there appears to be some kind of server error, SilverFox has been zapped too, even on the moderators list. I've notified Pete of the problem, and I'm sure it'll be fixed in no time.
In the meanwhile please put your seats in the upright position, fold up the trays into the seat in front of you, and then enjoy your flight. The crew apologises for any turbulence you may experience.

Hi Guys!

Sorry to hear about SilverFox but the server wasn't the problem in my case. Sad

Suffice it to say that the problem arose from a combination of me being out most of last night, no password on my P.C. and an errant 11 year old son.

My RTW site and forum also bit the dust in the process, along with most of my software. Roll Eyes

I'll get the site back up shortly but there's nothing I can do about the messages on my own forum (it's not my software) or the one's lost here.

It looks like about 400 messages have gone and I apologise profusely to all concerned.

It's somewhat ironic that I 've spent dozens of hours securing my box from internet attack. Enough said.

I think we should start a poll on suitable punishments for the eleven year old in question.

I recommend Hanging, Drawing and Quartering as decently slow.

Shame about all those lost replies though. I relied on them for sorting out all those problems I can't answer myself. Still it could be worse I suppose.  Roll Eyes

Solution: Get the kid a computer of his own. That way in a couple years he'll be the one fixing yours when it breaks down.  Grin

Failing that how about just a hard drive. Get a removable drive bay and another HD. Load an OS with all his games and such on it and when he wants to use the computer insert his drive. That way if he messes something up it only affects his drive. Yours is unchanged.

Sorry to hear you're on a full re-install. My situation isn't quite that drastic, but there were a couple of major casualties. My e-mail was one, several FS2002 add-ons that I can't even remember the details of now Roll Eyes, and sadly, the B-52 panel.

It wasn't near completion so I suppose I can be thankful for that, but the worst part of it is losing the main bitmap. It took me absolutely hours and was a complete re-vamp from the original I did following receipt of some photos. Out with the Paintshop Pro again... Sad

Can't you do a recovery of some sort. I think there are programs aout there to help with that.

I am sad to hear about the panel work being lost, i really am, just hope you can get it back together.

As to the firewall and stuff do you have one you bought? Frankly i don't find free online firewalls real protection. Mine--and i am not afraid to say so--is McAfee VirusScan which came with the firewall. I've found it very reliable, but what does that matter? Lips Sealed

Glad to have you back John Grin Cheesy Smiley 8)

I did a system restore but the last restore point I had was about 3 weeks ago. Didn't help much unfortunately.

The firewall is academic in this instance. The damage was done by my son sat at the keyboard. I do have a `paid for` variety of firewall though.

I'll get the panel done. It's just going to to take some time obviously. Right now, my priority is restoring my software, primarily FS2002 of course. Smiley

Thanks to all who have posted such kind comments. Smiley

If you mean setting it to do it automatically, I've no idea how to do it if it's possible.

You can do it manually by simply running system restore and selecting "Create a restore point". Be aware that these points take up a LOT of hard drive space.

You can adjust the amount available to it in the System Restore settings, but doing it every 48 hours is going to eat up major amounts of space.

Just to share the misery around, I'm sure you'll all be interested to know I lost a 60 GB hard-drive on Friday
4th May and it's replacement went 1 week later on the
11th May.     Second time I lost the lot.    Boy, the FlightSim is a lot faster in standard default mode without 3 Gigabytes of addons.     I also had to replace the keyboard, the salt tears rusted it out.     My wife and my dog have left town.    Anyone want to take bets on how long HD NO. 3 will last ?
