Craig you have to flare in a heli to stop it (pull the nose up, push the collective down (thats the throttle in 2k2)). If you go to the hoversafe academy run by Cal and the boys you'll learn everything you ever needed to know on virtual helis, I did their course just to brush up my skills, and I'm glad I did. Wow
I can do things that would have scared the willies out of me a year ago!

I am firmly convinced that helicopters have a mind of their own, and their maneuvres are completely independent of the pilots attempt at controlling them.
I am very familiar with the collective, (using the throttle), controlling the vertical movements.
The cyclic, (using the joystick), controlling the forward/reverse/climb/descend movements, and the rudder pedals controlling yaw.
But operating any of these, in any order, is guaranteed to have exactly the opposite effect to that which the pilot wishes...
....!
Attempting to hover will result in the craft either going forward, backward, climbing or descending very rapidly, or just rotating round and round it's axis until your eye-balls pop out of your head...
....!
...which invariably results in a crash and an increase in next years insurance premiums...(if you survive it)....
...!
Been there, done it, many times.... 8)...!

I've got the Millennium Falcon and the X-Wing Tie Fighters from Simviation....as a true Jedi Knight I have no problem with them....

I have the Jane's and Razorworks helicopter flight training manuals and the software to go with them...
Been up. down, round and round and crashed many times....
Thinks...life is too short for all this malarky....

Stopping does seem to be a problem with this model. I touched down at 0.2 knots and it skidded for several hundred feet across concrete with the collective (throttle control) off. It seems to have a little too much lift like it weighs nothing. It goes up great but it's really hard to get back down and you have to have absolutely NO forward movement when you touch the ground. I tried the same thing in the Jet Ranger and it stopped the second the skids touched. How do you adjust the lift value of the collective? Just a little less would make it handle perfectly.
Otherwise the detail is amazing. It's the most beautiful helo I've seen in FS2002. Oh, and another thing. How do you open the engine compartment like in the photos?

Cyril, she is beautiful. Handles great, you've got the torque effect so right its amazing. I'm constantly juggling the rudder. She's a dream. I've already posted some stuff in the Raw Screenshots Forum.
Now I'm off to fly her some more.

I just added a thousand pounds and that did the trick. I love this chopper now. It no longer taxies by it'self and it descends perfectly.
I just now noticed the other animation. Has anyone noticed that both the pilot's and copilot's controls move? Also, take a look at the blades on the tail rotor. They actually change pitch as you move the rudder controls.
Amazing.

Couldn't agree more Matt. This is without a doubt one of the singularly most detailed models for 2k2! I hope Cyril wins some kind of award for this, its the most talked about heli I've ever seen! People are learning to fly helis just to use this! INCREDIBLE

I ended up slidding onto a runway and got landed on by a big mean 747

Open the Gazelle's aircraft.cfg with notepad.
Go down to the section quoted below and change the values to add the 1,000 lbs as Matt did.
It still slides a little but nowhere near as badly.

Downloaded it and it flies great! I flew it around a bit last night. I am not a big Helicopter fan, probably because there are not a lot of great quality models. But I have made an exception for this one.
Question? How come the sounds do not wind down? They seem to spool up, but not wind down. I have noticed this with the default Bell 206. There is only one sound with it. Any suggestions on better sounds?
