I am just discovering the excitement of fssc and I wanted to know how to edit the parameters of fssc with regard to beam angles for a searchlight. I opened the parameters and it only says colour and texture so I went to a higher numbered parameter and entered 30 For degrees angle but still the searchlights are pointing straight up. At least they are in the scenery but how do I change these parameter settings for objects that need them because there is nothing in the help file to do with this. Thanks in advance for help, Bertie ???

Hi Bertie. I've used those moving searchlight macros myself in FSSC. With Fireman's help I got them working properly. Check out this thread. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=scn;action=display;num=103...

Absolutely FAB Hagar and thanks very much. This info couldn't be better for my help with the searchlight parameters. Also that tip about the parameter numbers starting at 6 and really being No.1 answers a few questions because I still find it strange when the colour/texture moves up and down the menu like that, but hey it's a great little progam all the same and freeware, hats off to Derek Leung, yourself and Fireman.Bertie  Grin Grin

Yep, love those searchlights. Hagar had to tell me where to get them. Searched for them high and low.

See, all these great minds together and we can answer almost anything. Alone, we are just above dangerous.  Grin

I even did a little trick with the ground search lights. I put them on top of some of my buildings. Did this by adjusting their alt.. Had to play with it a bit, but it really looks great. Bertie, you can even adjust the size and throw of the beam too. Careful with this though, some with lower end machines and graphics will start lagging a bit if you put too many in and adjusting beam size and throw too much.

Enjoy

To 526th Fireman, yes that was great finally getting my searchlights (over Hanoi heh, heh). Well I tried the 'BEAM' api and fiddled around with the parameters but everytime got thrown back to the desktop. I do have a slower processor but plenty of ram and cfs2 runs pretty much ok if I keep my sky down to about fifteen or so framerate friendly a/c. That's one of the reasons I play around with Vietnam and modern scenario's for the less a/c in missions as per reality. Although the standard missions work ok. The searchlights don't have any bugs nor do the lamps on buildings. Regards Bertie

Hi bertie.  Try just changing the scale on the searchlight as far as beam size and throw go. No great number is needed. I think the max. I have used is a scale of 5. Trying to adjust size in parameters, which is probably why you are CTDT, I don't think can be done.  Adjusting the scale of the macro will do the trick though.

To Fireman, Got it! Thanks for that. Changed to another api as well using 'schwein' something (must be one of Matt's I think). Anyway got the little revolving searchlight spinning around with a yellowish beam. Work out how to position on top of building tonight and get the correct height and number 5 param. Silly me I thought if you just placed the macro on top of the hangar it would be ok but it was spinning around on the hangar floor. looks good though even on the deck. Very clever that little macro spinning like that. I want to try also the Russian radar api's tonight, which also revolve. Thanks again, lots of fun this FSSC, keeps me up late, regards Bertie Grin

Great bertie. Glad you got all that worked out but sorry you have gotten bit by the scenery bug. If you are anything like me, when you start a scenery project you just don't want to put it down.

Well have fun with it and get some sleep now and then, stop to eat and rest your eyes now and then too.
