Have you tried calibrating your joystick?

Sounds like eronious messages from the stick to me. I had this on my first stick, and when I changed it the problems went away!
You could try unplugging any other peripherals you have attatched to USB ports, they can cause this to happen too.

Want me to make a suggestion? No it is not the fix just this:
Sadly any product by MS ( like FS) works best with other MS products (Like MS sidewinder)
I bought a Gravis Elminator Aftershock for my FIFA 2002 soccer and i was sad to find that it did not work. It might run in the company with the problems. WHat makes it even worse is that even though the game recognized the controller i could not work it. Also when i try playing with my joystick it plays perfectly. EA might not be MS but games are made to work with MS so there. But it doesn't feel the same to play with a joystick. Don't feel sorry for me.
I hope you do like me and unpack everything new carefully, with tape and such so if you need to return it they don't come up with crap like: Oh no the bubble bag is missing and stuff
Sorry that happens, but i am not buying anything else belonging to Gravis

Thanks for the suggestions,
didn't try the fsuipc yet, but what I did was unplug the joystick ffrom the game port and put the usb adaptor on it and the problem has now gone away.
Thanks for the help
