???Hi,I have a repaint question. It is not about aircraft but this section said " paint" so here I am. I am trying to paint a sign in cfs1.It is the stock, "sign1.r8" texture.I have painted names on ships so I did the same for the sign but in the game the sign shows to be transparent-black in color.I have converted the r8 to bmp with Convr8,then opened bmp2000,edit,painted the sign, saved bmp. Then converted back to r8 but the doggone texture just won't show.Named r8 and bmp exactly the same as the api macro in Airport 2.60.I tried using the bmp with the same and different names in the local scenery texture folder too with no success. This process works fine on my ships. What gives on the sign?
I could use some help.Any ideas?
Thanks for your time.

MAG_Ddave. I'm not sure why you're using BMP2000. It was intended for editing high resolution Extended format textures used in FS2000 & the later sims.
CFS1 can read textures in either R8 or BMP format. These must be sized 256 x 256 in 8 bit colors. ConvR8 should be ideal for converting & saving in both formats. I don't think Sign1.r8 is a CFS1 default texture. I don't have it in either of my own installs of CFS1. It's most likely included with one of the Airport texture sets.

Thanks for the reply Hagar.
Ihave tried everything.I just cannot get the texture to show. The macro name is "signr8.api".the two textures i got with it are "sign1.r8" ( a large 10x15 m sign) and the other is "sign2.r8" ( tall.narrow sign). They just will not show in the scenery.I even tried just putting in the raw r8,untouched,in the scenery and it won't show either.I have tried painting with just MS Paint.I have even taken a sign I know works in another scenery, changed its name to match (sign1.r8) and it still won't show. ??? I am perplexed. It should be working.I am missing something here.Any more ideas? thanks AGAIN for your time bud,I REALLY appreciate all your help.

You're welcome to the help Dave. I suspect it's the macro. Are you sure it's CFS1 compatible? With R8 textures it should be but you never know. If I knew where to find it I could check it out. I must have 100s of macros of all descriptions but this one doesn't show up on my HD. ???

OK. I tracked down that macro on MW's site with Google. Please note the instructions included with the macro.
Set Parameter 0 to the filename of the texture (eg sign1.r8 )
You must do this from Macro properties in Airport or FSSC for it to display properly. I tried sign1 in a test scenery using FSSC & it worked fine first time.
I then opened the texture in ConvR8 & sent it to PSP7 for a quick edit. Saved it & reloaded the edited image in ConvR8 before saving out in R8 format. Here's the result. This is the default size.
The sign textures are in my CFS1 main Texture folder as per the instructions. I think they would work just as well from the Texture subfolder of a particular area.

Hagar,you are " Da Man " !!!!!!!!!!!!
It works perfectly!! the funny thing is I read that "0 parameter" and I keep looking in the macro itself lol.Totally forgot about the parameter settings in airport itself.I have only used them a few time for live action macros and to use H_Pauls clear api to make an Essex carrier deck landable.......Duh.......Well,I knew i was missing something.Gawd, you should be gettin' paid for this LOL. That sign was the finishing touch on an airfield I was building for a freind. It's the 20th Fighter Group base at King's Cliffe.I built the runways and taxiways to scale from an aerial photo taken during the war.Wow. Now I'm done...and.... no errors, missing textures or missing scenery objects hehehe.I don't know how to thank you.You made my day.

Great. It's a good feeling when a plan comes together. That's the only reward I need.
Although I've lived in the UK all my life I don't remember visiting Northamptonshire except for driving through it on the M1 motorway. You probably know far more about King's Cliffe & the surrounding area than me. I had to look it up on a map to find out where it was. LOL
