I still haven't found a freeware one that works as advertised, but what is wrong with bigger boobs? I wouldn't mind some.

Hi Maccers...!
We've done this subject umpteen times before and I still can't think of a cure for it.... Cry....!
When I logged-on tonight I got 15 adverts trying to sell me  "VIAGRA", all from young ladies with differing names... Angry...!
(They don't realise it but mine has shrivelled-up and dropped off long ago through lack of use...so they are wasting their time in that department..)... Roll Eyes...!!!
I even get spam mail offering me programs to stop me getting spam mail...would you believe that...!!
I am reluctant to reply to it 'cos you can bet your boots they will post my address to every "Spam Sender" out there...!!
All my ISP can suggest is that I "Block Sender" of each mail. The trouble is the sender keeps changing their mail address to defeat that...!!
After discussing this subject with many people there seems to be no easy way to actually stop spam from reaching your In-Box...(at least, in Outlook Express).
It seems that even Microsoft, the designer of Outlook Express, can't design a working, easy to use, "Spam Blocker" in the program.... Cry...!
...jeees, it's so annoying....!

(Maccers....only a few more days until the BIG DAY...know what I mean).... Wink

Cheers....
Paul.
(England).

P.S. Maccers, when you get the breast enlargements done, post a picture here, that would be nice.... Wink...!
I'd like to try the "VIAGRA", but like I said before.... Embarrassed....!!

Hi Andrew....!
I know what you mean. The trouble is, I like my original E-Mail address, 'cos it describes me, and the trouble now is that all the "Spam Sites" out there know it as well by now...Boo, Hoo...!!
I should have kept my "Special" E-Mail address just for my friends, and registered a "Naff" E-Mail address for all the "Spam Sites" out there...!
You always learn about these things when it's too late...!!!
...Buggar...!
LOL...!

Cheers Andrew...

It's pretty easy to block spam with OE.  In addition to blocking specific senders you can just block mail with specific keywords in the address or body.  I'd keep breasts but dump viagra.

Just look in Tools/Message Rules.

O...k paul, the less said about your coment the better Grin
I actually use a hotmail account through Incredimail, it looks nicer... plus i get this really cool looking e-mail snail that zooms onto the screen when a new 'spam' arrives. Its still very much the same program.

Maybe i should broaden my needs on the email account thing...  A domain that isn't too well known, and can pretty much handle big file upload/download (that last one can be skiped if need be) Smiley

I have several email addy's & with one in particular I get bombared with spam ... & I hate to imagine if some young person is in a similar position.

I get hard core porn ads every day in graphic detail - everything imaginable -  rear end shunting - chickens - donkeys - underage - old folk - gay - ... I'll stop before it gets offensive to some...  8)

I've been round the clock so I'm rarely shocked but god forbid ... some kids must be getting this stuff too ...

What can you do about it? They are 'from' the likes of 'Jenny' or 'Microsoft' or 'webmaster' & contain subject lines like 'hi' or 'your request' or 'response to ... ' 'your recent purchase'
I've heard on good authority that if you try to stop these (which I have done many times..) they get worse - as you effectively sign up for more !!

I used to get thoes with my old free email provider. They usually want me to buy "cheap DVD's" , join the military, or to "Enlarge [my] penis to please [my] woman."  I won't buy stuff off the internet, I hate following orders, and have never had a girlfriend. They should really check out the people they send this stuff to. I remember beign 12 and having AOL. I'd get constant porn ads along with credit card offers in the regular mail.

There is however, a way to stop spam with Outlook Express 6. Under tools, select Message Rules and then Mail. You can set this up so you don't receive email from certain addresses or ones that contain certain words. I simply told mine to block emails containing the words "porn" and "XXX" and now I don't get thoes kinds of emails.  Smiley

I believe spammers have scripts that scan webpages looking for email addresses. The major problem with these scripts is that they have no intelligence, so having an e-mail addy like 'emailaddyREMOVECAPS@msn.com' prevents scripts from using your real address. I've got a friend that does this also.

btw, has anyone tried going to google and searching their name? I did, and it's scary!

I get bombarded with this stuff all the time. Out of about 30 mails in my Inbox this am only 4 were genuine. Fortunately I know how to recognise it & if in any doubt I simply delete it without even reading it. Sometimes I might slip up & accidently delete a genuine mail. I always thought I get so much of this crap cos my e-mail is well known. Recently I opened a Hotmail account to check it out. I selected the option to block Spam. Only one close friend knew the addy. When I checked it 2 hours later the Inbox was already full of the stuff. Figure that out.  ???
I'm not sure there's any way to block it altogether.

I'm sure these people use a simple random address generator to flood the net with their rubbish. If you think about it the computer is ideal for this. I don't think there's any way you can hide from it except use one of the smaller, less popular ISPs. I think this was the point of Maccers' original question.

Indeed it is 8) just an ISP that isnt too well known, just cos hotmail is so widely used its easy to pick off a random address from there.
In fact my snail is running its little socks off to bring me endless spam, poor sod Sad. latest;

I get a fair about of spam in my inbox, but I didn't know just how much until I downloaded Opera. Not only is it the fastest browser around, it's mail client has a built-in spam filter, which filters anything that looks like spam. Now I'll go for days without getting a single email, while my spam folder fills up behind my back without me even noticing.

Thoroughly recommended, but it only works with POP and IMAP mail accounts!

Thanks Tipster. I've used the free Ad-aware for years but I'm not sure how effective it really is. If it's as good as they say how come they do a commercial version?

I still think my random address generator theory is the explanation for my particular example. Most addys are in a similar format. eg. hagarr@hotmail.com or hagar@aol.com. It wouldn't take a genius to program a generator to automatically mail every combination with a given number of digits. These things could cover an awful lot of territory if they're left running permanently. I was told a similar system is used by telephone salespeople.

I also wonder what happens if someone who is not as careful about security mails me. Is my address now in the system? This spam is annoying but I've had my address for a long time. Changing it would cause problems for me & there's no guarantee it would make things any better. I guess I'll have to put up with it.  Roll Eyes

I've just gone into my Outlook Express > Tools > Message Rules > Blocked Senders List > Mail Rules and typed in all the "naughty" words which may appear in the message and requested that the ISP does not send these messages to me...
So tomorrow when I log-in it will be interesting to find out if it works... Roll Eyes....!
...fingers crossed... Wink...!

Cheers...

P.S...by the way....my "Blocked Sender's" list is UN-BELIEVEABLY long...!
