I wonder which scenery designer will get the XXX markings for Meigs out first?

Dunno, but after they do, I'll make a scenery of protestors around the fence!  (if it doesn't have them already)

i live in australia but have meigs as the default airport on FS you kinda get attached to it.  I believe the term for this major is "W@nk3r" and for him to be as low as to do it during the night.

What makes me laugh is the bewildering logic behind this guy's plan. He seems to think if he tears down an airport at night no one'll notice the next day!!!

UPDATE Grin : Friends of meigs just filed it's first lawsuit against the mayor alleging laws were broken. A filling of an injunction has been made as part of the suit in order to head off further destruction of the airport until which time that law suits can be decided.

On a side note, Tower operators, still up in the tower, kept two aircraft from crashing into one another when they noticed the collision course of the two craft. So much for the mayors theory that meigs does nothing to help control the airspace over the city. Good for PR at this point though.  Grin

Remember we - & I suspect most of those who are talking about this - are  a tiny minority.

I'm not from Chicago & know nothing, apart what I've read here, about the good people of Chicago.

However I suspect the majority of the ordinary people are apathetic about this - possibly even passively supportive ???

If Daley got - as I read - between 70 & 80% of the vote - I'd be very surprised if this REALLY effects his popularity.

I was sitting recently on a plane out of ORD beside a republican voting Chicago resident who didn't vote for Daley - however she said 'he does a good job....' One person, I know. ...... but maybe a realistic snippet of just how popular this guy is........

No doubt Merril or Kevin will correct me if I'm wrong....

Not much mention in the Chicago press - just to back up what I'm thinking.. (he can't control them too..... surely..)

I'll have to get back to guys with another post. I spent a half hour on the last one before the comp crashed, and now i gotta run.
To make it short however, your not exactly wrong pete, but the speculation is that the mayor isn't going to run again, so he's trying to use that popularity and get what he wants befor he's gone.
At any rate, he keeps this kinda stuff up, and there are alot of people who think there is a good chance that there would be little he could do to stay in office next election any way.  There was a Mayor Harold Washington elected between him and his father, so it is romotely possible.
Anyhow, the FAA has closed the tower, while the mayor was promising it was too stay open.  Didn't even tell him ahead of time. poetic justice...lol
A recent poll of chicagoans reveals that only 10%  support the mayor on this issue. 56% think the closing will have a negative effect on chicago buisness.
An injuntion was sucessfully filed in state court, barring further destruction of the field.
And lastly, to go along with the criminal wrong doing suit filed in state court, a federal suit is expected as soon as monday.
Der's ya update. sorry for the breivity, but me gotsa run. lol
  Later all.

I thought that the current Daleys' father came after those two though didn't he.   ???
I moved here towards the end of washingtons term, so i'm a bit confused on it. To hear some of the locals tell it, Washington was some kind of surprise victory as it was, given the Daley family's power round here, but then again, these people also seem surprised when it snows in the winter. Not to mention, they seem to think every winter was worse than the last. Testimony to the short term memories of the human race. Go figure. Tongue

Nah..  Daddy Daley was in charge of the fiasco of the the 1967 Democratic Convention.

From http://www.chipublib.org/004chicago/mayors/mayortxt.html

Daley, Richard Joseph 39th Mayor

Bilandic, Michael Anthony 40th Mayor

Byrne, Jane Margaret 41st Mayor

Washington, Harold 42nd Mayor

Orr, David Duvall 43rd Mayor

Sawyer, Eugene 44th Mayor

Daley, Richard Michael 45th Mayor

I forgot about Orr and Sawyer.  They were kind of like interims when Washington died.

Hehe, I forgot about those interims also, but thanks much for the list, things are much clearer now.  Grin

Anyhow, as expected, APOA has filed the fed suit as of monday, though I am not clear as to what exactly it is directed towards, other than stopping (temporarily?) the destruction of the field.  The news media has calmed itself down a bit, so i'm not clear what exactly the suit is about. Of course, there are links in this thread to the organization's site, I believe, for those that are more motivated to look into it than I this morning. lol

later all.
