the fact he had to go in at night without letting anyone know his intentions makes me question his intelligence
Don't kid yourself Craig, this guy is no fool. This is how these people operate. It was obviously a well planned operation, timed to perfection to take place when everyone's attention is on more important world events. Using national security to justify it is a master stroke. I think it's too late for Meigs but let this be a warning. Something like it could be happening near you at this very moment.

(edit.. DOH.. forgot to add the [ before the /url. whoops.)
News thread from Chicago Tribune (free registration required) explaining about Meigs closure in detail... partly related to the legislation to pass for the expansion of O'Hare Airport... but it's apparently "dead", so that's why they decided to close Meigs... so, NO expansion, NO lakefront airport... very smart move.

If I were Bill Gates I would have bought it for old times sake from the spare change down the back of my car seat .. - but that's why I'm not Bill Gates
Did you guys get that several planes had been left stranded at the field??!!

Chicago will never be the same again. I always hated Daley I never voted for him, he's just like his dad.
I used to visit Meigs all the time in the summer. I could sit by the gates & watch the planes take off & land all day. It's never gonna be the same.....

Hmm... At least we won't have to have meigs as our default airfield no more.... Maybe we'll be able to choose are own...
And will there be new scenery for it?

I cannot believe this. Daley is nothing more than a hood. His father was a crook too. And there are many nasty jokes about it.
Ah well, maybe the USN will have a few smart bombs spare when they get home and one could be programmed to stray into his living room or something...
I've even got a picture here of me aged 4 visiting Chicago with my dad and you can see Meigs right behind me! I'm heartbroken. This is sick and disgusting. I hope the owners of those stranded aircraft sue Daley for all the money he has stolen and then some.

This is a real pain, but don't worry. When elections come along, this is going to pop back up in his face. 8) It will be a wonderful example of how he goes back on his word.
Hopefully they'll find a way to open it again. It's pretty selfish of him to do such a thing. He said himself that there was no specific threat of an attack by a private aircraft in Chicago. I'm sure he's just looking for an excuse to build a park named after him.
