A new airport just opened in southern Iraq.........Allied troops have dubbed it "George W. Bush International".  Consult your local travel agent for arrival and departure times.

Was this airport just recently built, or is it already modeled in FS2002 as a different airport?

Its probably a strip bulldozed in the desert. Then some comedian found a couple of bits of wood and some paint.
Its something of a military tradition to do this sort of thing, frequently the names are less than complimentary! This one seems fairly reasonable.
I've heard of some impressively rude ones (and seen a couple too), I imagine Romulus has photos of him at most of them, as the most well known where in 'Nam!

Hmm - I know we just captured one in the north but I've never tried flying into Iraq.  Could be fun just to see what's there.  "You are number one for landing at Saddam Hussein International" - with an F-15.

Once again, a little off topic, but just a short question/comment.

I get really fed up with the media here (and worldwide on CNN, BBC, FOX etc) continuing the barrage of George W. Bush this, George W. Bush that.

Why George "DOUBLE YOU" Bush.

It's ridiculous. We all know that his father was Pres. We don't need to be reminded 1,000 times a day that he has a middle name.

President Bush or George Bush or Mr bush will do. I'm sure everyone will know who they mean (unless otherwise stated they are referring to past President Bush).

Who's responsible for starting this crap, anyway?  Grin Wink

I imagine Henderson field on Guadalcanal was named after someone of significance at the time.
I could look it up by "googling" Henderson, but I'm too lazy...............lol Grin Wink

Knowing military life he was probably the first man killed there or something morbid like that, we frequently used to name places after people that had died.

That, actually, seems to ring a bell for some reason - I might follow up and get back to you.  Grin Wink

I believe the field in question to be an old rather large Iraqi military field that they haven't been able to use since it was inluded in the "no fly zone".

Why name it after Bush? Y'all gotta remember the World Trade Center. That is why Americans are sentimental about some things and touchier than Hell about others.  America right now is like a stirred up hornet's nest. Bush is leading the charge. He has a popularity rating of about 70%, in spite of what you have been hearing in the media.

No, that was not a political statement - just a explanation of the name - hopefully.
